Whats the BEST cold air intake set up?

I've got a 4" downpipe coming for my 2000 model 24V and then I'm gonna custom build the rest of it to exit in front of the passenger side tire. Anyway, i'll probably be running it open for a few days till I get around to build the other pipes. Will it be driveable? How will it sound?

I ran a 4" downpipe on my 12 valve for 4-5 months. sound levels were acceptable. at least local authoritys didnt seem to have a problem :D . You will notice smoke pulling in your back window if you open it. I just extended mine to the back of the truck a few days ago and I cant hear the exhaust in the cab anymore. :( I have to roll down my windows now. I did notice a huge reduction in vibrations.

I did for a few day until my muffler came in. Very loud, IMO - And got soot al over the headliner from the soot coming in the vents behind the seat

I ran mine a couple different time with just a downpipe. I never had a soot in the cab problem, but it was loud, sounded awesome, especially with my current set-up. Ran it from MN to Montana 1 year like that... didn't have the power back then, when it'd downshift on the long grades you'd get a headache from the drone in the cab. You'll be fine running it for a few days.

Sounds really cool, but unbelievably loud! I had to run get a piece of 4" to finish out when I changed my turbo, I was setting off alarms over 100 feet from my truck!!!!

I ran mine with just a downpipe for a month or so. It was with the Jammer BB turbo. It sounded awesome. the whistle was unbelieveable. The drone was a killer though. I never noticed how bad it was, then one day I had a headache, man did that suck. I have about an hour drive home, I went straight home and put the exhaust back on after that drive!!!

Its bearable though. Heck, the wife didnt even notice that much. It took her about 10 minutes to say "why is your truck louder". :-laf

I had mine turned out in front of the tire and it looks cool and sounds good but I wish I had listened to everyone who told me not to do it. It turns your rim black after just a few days and it ended up really messing up my rim. If you have black rims or just don't care about them it is ok but it sucks always having to clean it.

My weak stock auto made the truck sound like a jet with the exhaust off. :laf:

My brothers 5 speed truck sounded like a dumptruck, and the turbo would make a barking noise every time he shifted gears. Sounded like tires squalling from a distance. I could hear his truck through the trees 2 miles away. :D Probably still a lot quieter than many bikes though.

Having been around bikes and driven my truck with just a downpipe, the truck was almost twice as loud as the loudest bike I have ever heard.

Not when one of the little punks down the street takes their silencer off their CR125 thinking they are getting more HP.
