Just wondering if anyone has upgraded their HTT HTB2 62/14 to either a 64/14 or 66/14? I'm thinking about putting a larger wheel on my 62/14 but I still want it to be a daily driver without putting a cam in the truck. Any noticeable spoolup differences? EGT reduction?

I'm not sure if I should jump all the way to the 66/14.

Dave,

Do you tow with your set up? I am thinking of going with your exact set up you have now, I do tow up 15k a few times a month in summer but don't want to have to worry about egt's. If you don't mind please give your experience or opinion.

Thanks,

Randy

I ran the 64mm versin for a year. It towed just fine in the mountains, up to 26k gross weight. Had no problems with it and dynoed as high as 503hp. It is the top turbo on my twins now

I haven't towed yet. My cruising temps are about 800-850 empty @ 75mph. I can hit 1400 on a WOT run in 6th gear, but I'm going close to 100mph at that point. I do have 3. 54's and 35" tires. To me, the turbo seems to spoolup very similar to my stock HX-35 when I had 80hp injectors. The cruising temps are about 100 degrees higher, though.

I have had all 3 compressors and both the 12 and 14 exhaust housings on the 64mm and the 66mm compressor on my truck.

I have had 2 different 66mm wheels and the last one is the best so far.

By far the puller 66 is the best one of the 3 for me and the way my truck is used. The only down side is when towing if I push the boost to over 35psi I get a surge. much more noticable when towing. I don't think it does it when empty. But if I keep my boost at 30pis that is right at 1270 on my pyro

there was a ton of things different between the htb2 and the other 2 turbos it didn't even feel like it was from the same family of turbos

for the amount of power my truck is making I didn't much care for the killer2b it was just a little small

Im running close to what you have and just switched from my HY to the Phat Shaft 66, i just cannot stop :D :--) :D the boost after 10 psi is sick. With a snap of the fingers its from 10 to 45 psi. Of course there is going to be alittle more lag but with my 150 edm it still pulls good and hard on the low side when im just driving slow. With the TST Comp on 4 it is just plain fun to drive. I put a 4" band clamp on my exhaust at the down pipe so i wouldnt have to weld it and i keep blowing it off :-laf . Ill have to find another way to fix it.

The sound is sooooo sweet to.

Id have to say im a happy camper with my Phat Shaft :-laf

I was thinking of switching to the B2 for my second turbo in my twins. would this Puller 66 work better for this?

dave no cam yet, it's not bad when the truck is empty, even thou it's not making high boost numbers on the gauge it is still pushing a lot of air. personally I think it pushes a ton more air then it's brother the killer2b at a low boost. I was able to hit a 1000 deg all the time with the killer2b around town or even towing before the boost come up. the puller 66 will spool up before the egt gauge hits a 1000, unless you are trying to make a smoke show  it's a little slow to spool in the lower rpm when towing but with a manual it is easy to over come. if you keep the rpm at 2k or a even better yet 2250 or so it pulls very well and egt will stay under the 1300 mark if I keep the boost under 30psi. at least on my truck. it may do better on yours

Todd T I would think the 66 is way to small for a twin set up in less you are running a 4bt :D

I have had a bunch of turbos on my truck and this is by far the best turbo I have had. to date I have had a H2E, 50/55, htb2 (62mm), killer2b (64mm), and the current puller66 (66mm) If my truck made less hp the htb2 was sweet for pulling but didn't come close for moving enough air. Then I would say the puller 66, it just works so much better on my truck then the killer2b

hope that helps
