My wife got a "install yourself" remote start for her car from her dad. Upon further investigation, I discovered I needed a few more harnesses, relays etc. available only from the company. These 3 "optional, but may be required" parts cost more than the initial price of the starter.

I installed probably the same remote starter that you are talking about on my 96 Ram 1500. I also had to purchase a couple of relays, I got them from NAPA for about $20. The remote start was about $50. from Sam's club. I believe the relays were needed for the remote lock/unlock feature, but I am not sure as the install was about 6 years ago. I do remember that going on there web site for wiring directions was surprisingly easy and ALL their instuctions and wire colors were correct. For the $70. 00 or so invested and about 3 hours labor(most could probably do it faster )It was a great investment. Still works great to this day. Try it out, I'm sure you will like it. (Cross reference the relays and you will probably get them much cheaper) Good luck!!
