I've been looking at different oil bypass filter systems and have been impressed with the Filtration Solutions FS2500 (http://www.fs2500.com). I've seen their demo video and spoke to them, but the only thing I'm a little hesitant on is, I was told their mounting bracket needs to be welded to the frame. I'd like to stay away from welding on the frame. Has anyone put one of these on a 3rd generation truck, and if so how did you mount it?

Any comments from people running this system and how often you change the filters and what kind of extended drain intervals you may be doing is appreciated.

I guess there must not be too many people running the Filtration Systems FS2500 bypass filter

Anybody running this on an older generation truck  If so, what kind of experiences have you had with it, and where was it mounted?

I am using the system now, how long ago did you speak with them? From what I undestang welding to the frame is no longer practiced. They drilled and bolted the unit directly to my frame. Great product I love it more everytime I pull my dipstick.

how is your FS 2500 plumbed into your oiling system? Where is the oil pulled from and where does it go back into the engine?

I, also, got the video & must admit that it is quite impressive. This thing LOOKS like it really works. However, it's very pricey (about $459. 00 for the Dodge/Cummins Kit & $22. 95 for the replacement filters). If, in the real world, it works as well as the video impies, it may be worth it.

I've been looking into the Oilguard system, for awhile now, & it seems to work well, also. Don't know if it's as good at filtering as the FS-2500, though. They say the Oilguard will filter down to 1 micron.

The Oilguard is in the $235. 00 price range for the Dodge Kit & the replacement filters are about $13. 00 (close to half the cost of the FS-2500).

Joe I have installed the fs-2500 kits and they are a nice quality

kit can you compare the quality to the oil guard?

Hi BOB4X4,

Thanks for responding to this thread.

What is your opinion of the Oilguard system & how does is compare to the FS-2500?

The FS-2500 costs almost twice as much as the Oilguard & the filters are close to twice as much, also. However, if there is something inferior about the Oilguard & the way it works then, the FS-2500 is money well spent.

Regarding plumbing in the "return" from the bypass filter, have you ever used one of the tubes that Cummins has, that goes into one of the soft (freeze) plugs next to where the turbo oil drains into the engine block? Seems like you would have substantially less hosing "flopping around" in the engine compartment. Anything wrong with that idea?

Thanks Bob4X4.

how is the plumbing routed? where does the oil go back into the engine?

Chris

The pressure side is picked up at the oil filter head (pipe plug on top) and on a 24v you can tap into the side of the v/cover for the return. They designed the filter to mount under the pass side of the truck.

I think you mean using one of the provided holes for oil return not freeze plugs ;) That would be fine but if there were any issues would the average owner notice it before the problem escalated to a full blown dump all the oil type problem. Out of site out of mind?

Filtration Solutions Installation Pictures

I started this thread back in 2004 and I ended up going with the Filtration Solutions. I've been happy with it and the oil analysis has been good so far :) The installation was pretty straight forward and they gave good instructions along with pictures.

If anyone wants to take a look at some pictures of my installation, here's the link to my web site: http://kevin. ortners.com/gallery/RAM-3500-CTD

Sorry Bugracing I just got home with my new son so i have not been on yet to reply. We used the plug next to the turbo oil feed line on top of the oil filter as the pressure line. I do not like the oil cap setup so i drilled and tapped the rear of the valve cover for the return.

elandon;

thanks for the info.

Congratulations on your new son. My wife and I have one too. Sleepless nights are the norm - insomnia and coffee will be your best friends for a while. Welcome to fatherhood.
