Cops, what a great show!

I have a wireless connection and have to use MS Outlook Web Access for my e-mail.

Goods:

e-mail and addy book available anywhere I go.

files/e-mail stay on the server unless I save it here.

I live/work out past the sticks and I'm connecting at 1. 5 meg :D

Bads:

The e-mail address book isn't viewable as one. In other words I can't see all my addresses at once. I have to type in one name at a time when sending out a ail to mult. recipts.

I'm having too much fun with this connection and not getting as much work done. ;)

Problem:

When I want to send a new mail, reply to one or forward another, I get this window saying that it's going to install MS Word SR-1 and I have to hit cancel about 3-5 times to get it to stop. My ISP provider told me to uninstall MS Outlook Express. This did the deal on my Win '98 laptop, but didn't do anything for my other machine with XP pro SP2. I don't know enough yet about XP to fix it, any suggestions?

Outlook can use word as it's text editor. It probably needs to install some additional components if you already have word on your system.

Or you can go to tools - options - mail format tab and uncheck the box for "use word to edit email messages" if you do not/cannot install the needed components and see if that helps.

I wish I could switch e-mail programs, but it is all this guy has setup for logging into his server. The software runs there, not here.

I'll try a Word re-install.

Solution to all of your microsoft problems...

Dump Windows and install Linu / open office. Linux / open office is much more like our cummins engines... You can really get in there and tinker. No limit to what you can do.

Oh, did I mention it was free??

LOL, his problem is that he's using Outlook WEB Access. There's nothing he can do on his computer to change that fact. Uninstalling and reinstalling Word is probably going to fix your problem with the program asking for Word SR-1. As for the other usability issues, try to convince the guy to upgrade to Exchange 2003. It's a lot more like regular Outlook. You can even look at you address book.

As an alternative, you can check with the mail provider and see if you can VPN into the network. Then you can use the regular Outlook and not have to worry about the web interface.

The disks I have for Word 2000 requires that I also install Works 6. 0. It reminds me of another 6. 0 we know - useless.

Anyhow, I uninstalled word and works. Tried the e-mail and it works fine. I reinstalled word (along with works - gotta figger out how to unload that shtuff) and the same problem is back. This time the CD was still in and I let it run it's course. Now I seem to have fixed it. Thanks for all the help. -Tim

Same thing is happening to me, when I try to open a Word doc that has been sent to me. It goes to the screen, asking for the MS key for Word 2003. :-{} Unfortunately, I don't have it, I've got Office 2000. :(
