seeing dealer again

I am going to take it in to the dealer on Tuesday. I am going to let them try to find a problem, then I will try the EZ. I am seriously thinking of getting the comp though. Can I hook up the comp just like the EZ, i. e. just the two plugs, then hook up the other (canbus plug) later, after 100k? I don't want to put a clutch in this thing right now either. I just want a very solid towing setup that will not slip the stock clutch or run extreme egt's. Guess I will have to bite the bullet and spend some money on this dog.

See if you can PM TxDieselKid.

He has the PE COMP setup like an EZ.

it is possible to run the COMP just like an EZ,, then later pierce the injection pump wire.

my 2nd opinion

Dodge isn't gonna care all that much,, You'll come it a couple dozen times,, get all frustrated, then Leave,, maybe buy a Phord or Duramax,, there problems are over. (Yours could be just starting)

A certified Cummins shop is on the Flip side. These guys take pride in their motors.

I think the problem you guys are having,, Rough running, Low Power, Bad Mileage. .

Especially klenger,, smells funny and runs rough, (If you are serious, I'd hate to ignore you then it be true)

I've had my VP44 kiss the Cummins goodbye,, But it was L--O--N--G Kiss, atleast for me it was,, I got down to 10MPG empty in the city,, was smoking blueish, grayish, and a touch of black. My rear fender was covered with the nasty oily stuff, not just diesel soot. was sometype of oil or something (might have been REALLY Thick soot)

Well, no power,, wouldn't touch 85MPH emtpy, and lousy MPG,,

My Advice. . stop by a Cummins shop and ask 'em what's up!?! Don't be MAD,, you need to want to solve the Problem. . I work on model Airplanes at times,, if a person comes to me and is all MAD about his STUPID Good For Nothing Plane doesn't Fly Right,, (And other people love the same type of plane) I would be a bit frustrated with it,, knowing that when I'm done putting my heart into getting it fixed, he'll be thinking it's gonna fly perfect, or be a POS.

The VP44 is a strange creature. With how many Dodge/Cummins are running around the loss (breakage) rate is EXTREMELY LOW,, knowing that,, There are bound to be failures as no one is perfect.

Also,, This problem most likely won't be solved over the phone, or with raised voices.

Plan some time with your Local Cummins Shop to have them investigate. .

It took two-three months for me to get my Cummins to go from 10MPG and low power, to 15MPG in city,, and now I'm back down to 11MPG and 350HP (I LOVE Smoke, but my friends say it stinks, to bad for them :) there gassers stink)

What did it take for my truck to go from low-power 9-10MPG? to 11MPG w/350HP ?

A new...

Throttle Position Sensor

Lift Pump

VP44

Exhaust Manifold

^^Those mods (BOMBs) brought me up to 15-19MPG in the city and 20MPG highway

Air Filter (BHAF)

New Injectors

PE Comp

New, Custom Exhaust

Gauges (okay, they don't enhance ACTUAL power)

^^ These mods brought me up to about 350HP and 11MPG in the city. I went 358 miles on 34 gallons, all city miles. The side of my truck, from Exhaust tips (In front of wheels) from the Back of the tailgate was untouchable unless you wanted to get a considerable amount of Diesel Soot on you.

I still have the stock clutch,, but it's not a very happy camper on anything above setting "3" on my COMP.

Final opinion,, stop by a Cummins Shop, and take the time,, Who knows how many people all want their engines fixed *NOW* ASAP! :D

P. S. Sorry for long post (again) it's the darn typing classes. Hope you like reading.

Chace,

Something is not right. 4,000lbs should be nothing to that truck. Dont go and put a band-aid on it,until you find out what is wrong. Some dealers have no clue. Find another, you will find a place that has a good diesel tech. Also keep in mind that these engines come extremely tight from the factory. You'll need to brake it in. BTW, the EZ is a great little box,but if you have low power, and mileage,it's not going to get you where you should be.

Big A

Low Power

Chase TX:

There is TSB 18-024-00 dated Dec. 21 ,2000 pertaining to low engine power/or poor performance. This TSB # pertains to trucks with automatic transmission. It involves reprogramming the Cummins CM551 Engine Control Module (ECM) software. I see no reason why your engine could'nt be mis-programed. The TSB covered engine serial numbers 56666444 TO 56798357,with a date manufacture of DEC. 15, 1999 TO NOV. 15, 2000. I had mine done and it made a big difference.

JimP:

A friend of mine was having the same problem since he bought the truck new. Come to find out that there was a split in the pre intercooler hose from overtightening at the factory. Dodge replaced the hose and he said he didn't realize how much power he was missing.

no thanks ...

i already have my own low power , poor mileage pig ... dodge sold us a lie ...

but i was able to fix it myself , last time on the dyno it was 409. 6 hp to the ground ... :p

you guys think i got it fixed ??? :D:D

Dealer agreed to look at tomorrow.

The service advisor at the local dealer, agreed that I might have a problem. Will reflash and go from there. Also have a rear transmission seal problem, slinging oil everywhere. I finally got my point to be understood by some of ya'll. I never intended to flame the Cummins, they are the best there is. Figured out a long time ago that a catchy topic will get more response than a lame one. I also did not want to put an EZ or any other mod on it, because it is not running like it should. After it is running properly, I will decide if I need more power or not. Also, checked 40-60 times. If cruising at 40mph in 4th gear on flat ground and mashing the trottle, it takes just over 9 seconds to get to 60mph. When I got this pickup it would go 40-60 in about 7. 3-5 seconds.

Thanks,

Chace

I'm with Dodgeboyz, my '01 was a dog. No make that a puppy! I felt like you did. Like I had been taken for a ride. I've got over 20k on it now and you couldn't get me to trade for the b/b's I've had. Hang in there, it only gets better!
