Ok guys, here's the deal. My grandpa's motorhome (Bounder) has a 99 ford chassis, with a v 10. On his last trip it was using coolant, a lot of it. So much actually he had to turn the motor over backwards to get the water out of the cylinder to get it to start. Anyways. I know it's either a head or head gasket. How much of a pita is it to change one on that motor. The whole motorhome thing doesn't make it any easier. I know it has an overhead cam, and a balancer next to that. I did the head on my truck and on 350 chevys, but is this a lot different? Do I have to look out for anything in particular? I just don't want to get it apart, or him to get it apart and be in over my head. TIA

Hopefully for your sake it is a class A and not a class C... .

They aren't too bad to work on, the front cover has to come off to get the timing chain out of the way, but in a class A with a liberal engine access cover it isn't too bad to do.

If a class C..... well, have fun.

Talked to a buddy of mine who's a Ferd Wrench, he says there not bad, take the radiator out and all the accessories off the front ot the motor to get the timing cover off. Mark the timing points with paint, THE TIMING GEARS DO NOT COME OFF THE CAMSHAFT, pull the valve cover(s) and the rest is history, doesn't sound to bad, but I'm not doing the job either, GOOD LUCK and hope this helps.
