Anyone added a navigation system?

I've been considering putting in a navigation system while I have the dash tore apart. I found the following one listed as a Mopar Accessory...

Is this the same system that would have come with the truck as a factory order option? Has anyone installed this add-on system that could comment on how it works?

I am thinking of getting one of those units as well. I don't think that is what comes when you order the truck with the nav option. The $2600 is for a combo radio/nav unit that fits in the dash. For those that can't find it on the link above, here a picture and description:

I'm in the process of adding an Alpine nav unit with a double DIN display to my 06 Megacab. I chose not to go with the MOPAR's because they aren't touch screen. Entering a destination address with a joystick is a pain in the butt. I tried it at the dealership and it took way too long. Eclipse and Pioneer also offer nice double DIN touch screen units. I have the Eclipse in my work van and it is convenient. It's also nearly identical to the one in my Lexus.



Also, if you go touch screen, I strongly recommend double-DIN instead of the single-DIN motorized screens. The pop-out screens flex too much when you push on the screen.

I don't know if it's going to be useful yet, but the reason I went with the Alpine instead of the Eclipse this time around is that it integrates with Sirius or XM traffic so that you can get real time traffic updates on your map. Alpine and Pioneer offer this feature and Eclipse doesn't. I'm pretty sure the Mopar one doesn't have that feature either.

I just bought a garmin nuvi 350 and very happy with it. under 700. 00

When I inquired about the GPS systems,my salesman advised I would be better off to go to Best Buy or Circuit City and get an aftermarket GPS. I use a Garmin GPS V in my personal vehicles and a Map 162 in the big truck. Just my . 02.

Thanks for the comments... Does anyone know what brand of navigation system the new landrover's are using? I tried to google without much luck. I rode in one a couple days ago, and it was very impressive... it seemed accurate to within 10 feet as we passed different roads.



I'd like to keep the stock radio (6-disc w/ cassette) and liked the integrated look of the mopar unit... I was just interested in first-hand feedback from someone who had used this product. Thanks!

I believe the factory unit you are referring to is Chrysler part # 82208653AD, 82208653AE or 82208653AF. It mounts in the factory radio location in the dash. If you will do an ebay search for "dodge navigation" you can see a few of them. I put a factory RB1 in my '04. 5. It is not the same radio but has similar functions. They all are very accurate. The main difficulty with those that are not touch-screen is that data entry is cumbersome and it is difficult to modify the route that the GPS automatically selects for you. Mine frequently selects longer, less practical routes and misses a lot of short-cuts on good state and local roads. I like the neat factory look but I am used to using a laptop with Delorme Street Atlas and an Earthmate USB GPS receiver and it is so much easier to use and has so much greater detail. Upgrades are much less expensive too... . about $40. for the entire USA vs 150. - 200. for the factory radio upgrades.

Go aftermarket - Garmin!

A word to the wise normally suffices. Built-in GPSs cost 3 times what aftermarket units cost and they don't do 1/3 the amount of work. Your choice but in my book a top of the line Garmin for $700 (on the 'Net) is worth far more than a built-in GPS. I should know: I have one of each in two different vehicles.

Another vote for the Garmin nuvi 350. Had it for about 4 months now. Wife and I both love it and she takes it with her when she leaves on business trips!
