Take Time to Remember the Edmund Fitzgerald

So who here has been on a cruise? Mack and I are thinking of going sometime within a few years. Maybe over Christmas 07.

I watched a program on building the Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas with the Flowrider surf pool and mini golf, and of course, the hot tubs that cantilever 12' over the edge of the ship! Sweet!

So which cruise line did you go on? What ship? How long? Was it worth it? Was it crowded? Was it easy and relaxing like it should be?

I don't know where we want to go, but I think a four day would be good to try one out on.

Thanks!

Nick

We went on a Disney 4 day bahamian cruise in March of this year. There was one day at sea, one day at Nassau, and one day at their private island. the last "day is getting out to nassau, and getting back" The food was fantastic too. everything was first class. It was relaxing and not too crowded either. there are plenty of adult activities even though its Disney. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suites with concierge. They were at our beck and call. Nice if you like that sort of thing. (i personally coulda cared less but it came with the room)

I liked it. It was relaxing. Went to Nassau in December. Had some cloudy weather though. Only one sunny day. Kida cool w/out the sun. I had trouble finding much to do but then I don't like big parties either.

I traveld from Miami on Carnival. I was suprised that "most" women wore resonable swimwear as opposed to what you hear and the guys wear shorts or swimwear that drop way down to the ankles... weird... . but that's the style.

They do a great job of taking care of your every need, just don't be late getting back to the boat from your stops

I'd like to see a boat offer a dyno testing room with a Cummins 5. 9 and a Detroit Silver 92 Oo. ;)

The ship has this very large upright that conceales the exhaust pipes from the engines. Them big diesels smoke something terrible... . ALL the time. Must be the load from the generators?? I mean thick black smoke pouring from the stoacks. :) now THAT was fun. Oh yeah..... and something broke on the ship that helps to stop the sway from rough seas. Folks were vomiting up all over the place that first day out. THAT was cool too. (I don't get sea sick but lots of folks do)

If you are looking for a luxurious cruise without all the rowdiness of the typical Royal Caribbean/Carnival cruise, look into Silver Sea cruises. They are hands down the finest available. They are not as large as the mega ships which affords them to provide impeccable service. Their prices are really all inclusive, including all the alcohol you want to consume. That way you are not surprised when your bar tab costs as much as your ticket. They will have your favorite beverages in your cabin waiting on you.

I just got back from an Alaskan Cruise w/ my wife for our honeymoon. We took Norwegian Cruise Lines. I believe the ship was the Norwegian Sun. We enjoyed all the ports of call and exploring, but would have enjoyed more time in port to check out the cities. Neither my wife nor I would consider ourselves "cruise" people as we weren't all that interested in many of the onboard activities... parties, shows that we weren't interested in etc. We loved it for the fact that it was a stress free way to get a glimpse of Alaska. At some point, we'd like to go back and do our own thing to REALLY experience Alaska.

Wife and I did a 7 day on one of the Princess (think Love Boat)boats back on 2001. Forget which one.

What a great time! Service and food were impeccable, boat was clean and drinks fantastic. Can't recommend one enough.

Need a chaperone? For a small fee I'd be happy to help!

We've been on 2 (both Royal Caribbean). Oh, baby, I love cruises! I'd take one every year if my budget would tolerate it!

Last cruise i was on was in 1989 it was Disney`s "Big Red Boat". I know it was a looong time ago but i`d do that again in a heartbeat if I could swing the $$$

I thought you just bought a yacht?

No wait... I guess that was a MegaCab :-laf

You mean my land yacht? Yeah, it has DVD and sunroof, but no bar, casino, hot tub or spa yet. Oh, and it doesn't float too well :)

Thanks for all the help guys. I read on Royal Caribbean that the Freedom of the Seas cost something like $947 million. That's a lot of money!

My wife and I are going on a 5 day cruise on Royal Carribeans Enchantment of the Seas to the western carribean in october for our 10 year anniversary. I can let you know when we get back how it went - never been on one before.

I have been a couple times I might go back in November with some friends. They are the cheapest thing going if you get the Royal or Carnival. For a 4 night cruise it's $270 with taxes included. that includes everything but booze. And they have fresh lobster every night if that is your thing. As much as you want to eat. For the food, pool, rooms and everything $270 is very cheap. This boat is going to the bahamas. The main expense is getting to the cruise ship.

No one mentioned Celebrity Cruise Lines, but they rock also. Wife and I took a cruise in '02 and had the time of our lives. We never wanted for anything... the service was impeccable, the boat was nice, the ports of call were interesting. As was mentioned, the bar tab can be steep (as can be the gratuities), but if you're like us you won't go on many cruises.

There seems to be 24 hour entertainment, there's always food somewhere on the boat, and no shortage of drinks. We went to San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Marten, and Freeport on a 7 day.

Got back from our cruise early sunday morning. We had the time of our lives! Best vacation I've ever been on BY FAR. I was very surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did - I booked it mainly for my wife since she's wanted to go on one for a long time. We went on a 5 night western caribbean cruise on Royal Carribean's Enchantment of the Seas. We went to Key west first, Cozumel next, 1 day at sea, and then a day at Coco Cay Bahamas (private island). It was VERRRY relaxing. There were 2900 passengers on our ship and you never knew it. If you wanted seclusion you could find it, if you wanted to party they had that too (did some of both). The first night on the ship I sat on the rail on deck 5 (there are 11 decks) and watched the sunset - I was out there for about an hour and a half and saw maybe 5 people. I've never been so relaxed in my entire life. We had fun on the excursions we took (Tulum - mayan ruins in Mexico, snorkeling and sailing in Coco Cay). Enjoyed the TOP NOTCH service the entire time. They said many times that if there was ANYTHING they could do to improve our stay to let a crew member know - and they weren't joking. 24 hour room service is included in the price of the cruise (tips aren't) - we ordered a meal at 2 am one night. We ate 5 meals a day - all great meals (gained 3. 5 lbs :( ).

This was the first vacation I've ever gone on that seems like it was longer than it was - we were gone 6 days and it seems like it was 2 weeks. I'd highly recommend a cruise for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation - we will definately do it again. I've put pics up for friends and family who are interested - you can see them at http://www.deluxepokertables.com/stevest if you are interested.

Me and the MRS are heading out on Jan 21/07-Eastern Carribean with Royal Carribean Majesty of the Seas or something like that(10 anniversary present-i guess i have to go :D )-she picked it. I'm along for the ride, not much of a exotic traveler(flying ones)anyways---to me i'd rather spend a few weeks on a small lake fishing/doing nothing etc in the rv,kind of like to sleep in my own bed and sh%$ in my own toilet etc. Wife loves to fly and go to far away places, not me unless i can drive, kind of like my old man i guess. Mom amd my sister would always fly if the trip was long,me and dad would load up the station wagon and drive 2000+ miles together and drive non stop(sure do miss those days :-laf ). The only time the car would shut down is for fuel/pee breaks etc, most of the relatives could'nt believe that we would choose to drive over flying/but i got to see more of this great country and the times with my dad i'll never forget. Everone i talk to really has enjoyed their cruises so we'll see how it goes,i hope so for the prices but i have to bit the bullet and let the MRS have here way,i can always hit the lake for some ice fishing when i get back---from 30+degrees to-30degress in less than 24 hours. :-laf :-laf :-laf DW
