Competition Anyone built traction bars?

Looking to build a set of traction bars to try and help traction. Anyone made a set that is working? Where did you mount them to. Thanks for the help.

You might try and get ahold of Steve St Laurent. He had some made up and were being sold through enterprise but have been discontinued I think. Anyway he might be able to give you some good ideas. If I recall the postings on his they worked great and overcame many of the shortfalls of the mass marketed ones.

Steve's bars are pretty trick--you will need to beef the frame up where they attach though as some people had cracks developing--





on another note I've been told not to use pipe for control arms and I'd think the same would be true for ladder bars--bummed out cuz I've got some sch. 80 pipe just waiting to be used--DOM tubing or chrome moly seems to be the preferred/recommended mat'l-----chris

i do know if you make traction bars not to make the snubber touch before the spring eye on the spring... . it will bow the spring and eflect it. . you should make the snubber touch the spring eye or shackel area at the least. . some custom bars extend forward on the frame past the frong spring eye and shackle to custom mounts. . similar to cal tracs. . i saw a 10. 5 dot slick racers using a similar setup... mummn i think i need to find a detroit locker or a spool to use the traction ...

You would definately have to have a large surface to take the stress of the bars. In the rear would you make a bracket that fits under the axle an connects to the u bolts? On another page, why doesnt anyone make a real locker for the "U" model dana 70?

Traction bars Ladder bars

They work very well, are easy to install, and stand up to sled pulling abuse.



They also make our trucks ride better on rough roads and on soft surfaces.
