'03 6sp smoking at idle black?

Let me start off by saying as a new member to this forum that I having been reading the posts for years and I have owned and tinkered on the various versions of this engine since 1994. Two weeks ago I bought one of the Last 5. 9 engines from my local dealer and I bought it for that reason... . 1 of the last available. It is a 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 with a G56 and 3. 73 gears.

I have owned 1 previous CRD which I traded in and I had good service out of it except for a dreadful Auto Transmission problem that I won't go into. That was the 1st and last Auto I will ever buy. That truck as well as the new one lacks the grunt off idle that I desire. Since DC won't or can't fix it, due to emissions regulation or whatever, to my desire I wold like to download Smarty (which I have used in the past) to fix my problem.

I am not looking to race the truck, sled pull, or hot rod. I just would like a little more Throttle reponse that I know the Smarty will give me by altering the torque mgmt program. I drive 600+ miles a week with about half of that grossing 20,000lbs. I plan on keeping this truck for many years and many miles and I don't want to jeopardize a perfectly good warranty for Throttle response and I have not done anything to the truck thus far that will do that... according to my service manager, but I suspect he wil not be so understanding if he finds out I have used a progtrammer.

Marco claims Smarty is undetectable so my question is this:

HAS ANYONE BEEN BUSTED USING THE SMARTY PROGREAMMER BY DC? Tell me your experiences with your DC service MGR post Smarty.

i have tried multiple times to find a trace of my smarty in my truck using the drb 3 tool here at the dealer. i have yet to see any differences. to where when i had the BDTD i could easily see the key count was gone. certin other things like stored boost, and fueling changes. the ECM stores data every once and a while. im sure if chrysler wanted to go into the ecm they could see it but the only reason they would need to do that is if you went in with an ecm problem. i have sat through a meeting with a few chrysler reps and they know about the smarty and that its going to be very hard to detect. needless to say i got very quiet when that subject was brought up. ;)

You might try hitting them up for the Tow/Haul beta. It's supposed to take care of most of the smoking issue, and as long as you don't exceed SW3, you probably won't have too much potential for issues. Your G56 will handle SW5 no problems, according to MADS. I'm running it on SW5 (Ver 4. 06D, Data 2. 08A) right now, but I'll probably run it on SW1 or 3. I was just running it to do a MPG check. It did 21 this run, probably didn't average over 55 MPH in the hills here between Indy and Evansville, IN. BTW there was no effect on my overhead. All figures hand-calc'd.

Be sure you wash the soot of your rear quarter panel before taking it in.

Definately a good point..... but just for the record my White 05 (stolen)... . had soot on the rear qtr panel... . and it never had a programmer..... but it only got washed 3x's per year! :)

There's soot on my quarter panel after 1 day and 20 miles. :D

To each his own - and obviously many here are proud of their "smokers" - but I have just recently returned my '02 back to stock Smarty programming and am using only the Comp for power - and even at that, using 1x1.

Even at that level and with my 1. 6 injectors, the smoke CAN be very noticeable if I get too frisky from the stoplite...

The Smarty simply adds too much fuel too early for around town, low speed operation even down on program #2 - plus, the "timing rattle" is a bit annoying if you get even a little aggressive on the throttle, especially on a cold engine.

This town has the local police, Sheriff headquarters for the county, and the State police office - showing off lots of smoke around here is not only pointless - it also invites tickets! ;)

I wish that the smoke was more controllable, but it isn't. Now with my new turbo there is a haze all the time.

I am thinking about selling the Smarty and getting a TST to replace it.

YUP - I'm about in the same boat - the Comp and 1. 6 injectors supply all the fuel my turbo can provide air for - and all the power I really need or want - might consider selling my Smarty as well...

Smarty

My Smarty stays on, smoke can be regulated by my right foot. I finally got my brother to get one for his '03. He keeps it on #3, what a tremendous change in power. He loves it! Can't have your cake and eat it too, some people say...

98. 5 qc, 1. 5s, comp, bhaf, trans by Marv, etc.

If you go in for a warranty for , injectors, block, or turbo issues, you can bet they will download the ECM and send it to 5 star.

So the 2nd gen Smarty smokes a lot also?

YUP - and with added larger injectors you can't always "control it with your right foot" - the least bit too much accelerator, and LOTS of smoke - sorta like it loads up at a stop, and suddenly dumps it all at once...

I tried SW3 on an 05 that had an edge juice att. Turned it off and on SW3 it would slip the clutch from 4th gear on while empty. With EJA it never could slip the clutch on 5/5 and towing heavy! BTW this is also one of the first batches of smarty's that came to the states with the original programming.

I appreciate the replys but my question still remains... Can DC tell that you have been using it? Soap can take care of the soot on the panels. MADS claims that it leaves NO FOOTPRINT. Is there or isn't there?

Marco is a man of his word. We would not make the claim if it was not true.

Thank you

and we don't tell customers to use it for fraudulent reasons, but we don't believe non related failures should be denied because of an aftermarket product
