Anyone buy a new air filter lately ? Well, its been a while for me. I took a look at my air filter the other day and it was just black. I dont remember when I replaced it last time, so its been quite a while. I drove down to Cummins NW to get a new fleetguard, but they didnt have any on the shelf. So, I drove up to Everett to a dodge dealership to get the mopar version. With tax it was almost $50. Im sure my memory is failing somewhat, but it sure seems like the last time I bought one it was closed to $30. And no, it wasnt 10 years ago. :-laf

Paid $34.95 Dodge dealer Hillsboro couple months age. Last Cummins NW was about $25. Didn't want to drive extra 40 miles to save when that was all I need.

Hmm, I wonder if they charged me for the right part.
Of course, I did buy my new car from Dave Smith in Kellogg just because I didnt like the sales lady here. Maybe that should extend to the parts dept.

MSRP plus the governor's share in the big city will put it close to what you paid. I used to have a good rapport with the local dealer's parts folks down here, but over the years they moved on and their replacements seem to place an "added value" on most everything. At least Aimie didn't move too far away and remains down the block a piece at another Chrysler Corporation dealership. I get some of my parts there at a reasonable price.

I bought the one at the dodge dealer because I didnt want to take the time to drive down to cummins that day. I just called cummins and their price is $17.50. Next time Ill just wait a few weeks and go back to cummins (what I usually do)

Just discovered something very disturbing about my K&N filter. I have the one that is direct replacement of the stock and fits in the airbox. I took it out to clean it and while rinsing it out saw metal shavings on the screen that holds it in. Small aluminum flakes from the stamping process and they,re on the side that faces the turbo.

I don't think you're going to find a lot of K&N fans on this site. I have run them on vehicles in the past but I won't anymore. The filtration ability does not seem to live up to the advertising and your issue is just another strike against them.

Don't know if the 04 uses the same one but Napa Gold looks just like the thick Fram and is less than Geno's and even more so with the shipping

I bought 6 Fleetguards from Geno's a while back, and just put in the third one, 40k miles on the clock. Yes, I don't "need" to change them so often, but it doesn't hurt either, especially when there are some bugs imbedded in the filter.

Cummins has specifically said not to use Fram oilable air filters! It's the only one they've named by brand not to use.

Not all Fram air cleaners are Oilable

But all the NAPA brand filters are made by the Wix corporation and is just repackaged as NAPA.

Don't need to start a war but I believe that Napa OIL filters are Wix the Air cleaners are Fram and it says Fram on the print on the Orange rubber if you look very closely. BUT I COULD BE WRONG ITS HAPPENED BEFORE!!

Get the Geno's 4-2-1 kit. 4 oil filters, 2 fuel filters and an air filter. You'll never forget to change it again.
