Im considering a trip up Mt. Washington and would like to do it in my truck. I was at their website and they list vehicle limitations which have a width limitation of 80" including mirrors. I didn't actually measure yet, but I have the towing mirrors and would estimate that I'm out unless I fold one and make a temporary strap on to get around this.

Aside from that, has anyone been up there? taken the cog train ride? any lodging tips? I have 2 real young kids, aside from riding around is there any kid stuff up there? Gotta plan these nice weather trips well in advance, Thanks!

I hiked up there on a backpacking trip a few... . alright, MANY moons ago. I was in great shape then... ... :(

Anyway, On a clear day the view is amazing. The weather station is there. There is a snack bar/ souvenir shop. I drove by there about 3 years ago on the way home from Bar Harbor, Maine. The road to the top was open but it was foggy and I didn't want to pay to see fog at 6000' or 5287' or whatever it is. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was $20 per vehicle. I can't remember for sure. I'm sure someone here has been there recently.

It's worth the ride if the weather is nice.

Good Luck, Enjoy the view!

Tom (98rammer) and I went up Mt Washington in his truck when I was in NH this past summer. Was a little tight in some spots, but nothing too bad.

yeah, single rear wheel full size trucks are allowed (the mount washington trucks are f250s going up and down the mountain). i doubt that they'd say anything about the mirrors.

Matt was scared :-laf

ah yes, Story Land is about 3-5 miles before mount washington (you wont miss it  http://www.storylandnh.com/ ). there's a ton of things to do in the white mountain region, just stop at a rest stop/info center and pickup some brochures.

This is sounding good! there is also a pikes peak type hillclimb race that happens in July, but I think it conflicts with the Mack truck open house/ truck show at Macungie I wanted to do.

I guess a low viz day would ruin a trip up that mountain- no way to plan around that!

I live in Macungie... lol :)

I know it's a long way off, but if you go, send me a message maybe we can meet up. As long as it doesn't interfere with the Bloomsburg truck show. I go there every year. 2nd weekend in July.

The Macungie show is June 17th-19th. See here for 2005 truck show dates all over the country. http://www.aths.org/shows.asp

I've been there 3 times but never with my truck. We always take the cog train up and it's a blast !! Nothing better than watching that coal burner spew ash all over everything, including you, as it tugs you skyward. We usually stay in Bretton Woods, which has a nice complex with a indoor heated pool. There's plenty to do with the kids. Try to plan your trip in the mid summer months, it gets way cold at the summit as early as late August/ early September.

Hey Scott! I took the plunge on a new ride (check my sig) and got it up in Sussex this August. I had a flash thought about you (being up in Vernon) while I was nearby picking it up.

I don't know exactly if/when I will be going up there to Mt. Washington since we're in the vac. planning stages right with time off etc. , but it sounds like a good trip.

I think Macungie and Bloomsburg will clash, since I think it's all the same weekend as Chryslers @ Carlisle.

This year I want to start getting back to doing things I gave up a long time ago when I got kids and a house. My Son will be 5 this spring and is getting to that age where he needs exposure to the important things like this antique truck show, some bracket racing (at LONG last), and tomorrow we are going to this show

It's the largest racing type show on the east coast (mainly dirt and asphalt round track) with a pretty good size collectable show also. I haven't been to this show in 10 years, since I used to pit for a dirt modified years ago. The clay is still in my blood!

Good for you Wayne ! Nothing better than getting the family out and doing something that interests you as well.

The trip up North is well worth the ride and your time. Your 5 year old will enjoy the trains and the view from the summit. My youngest was 5 the first time we went, she still talks it up.

Do you work for Mack? They must own the place!

No, I don't work there, but as you could imagine alot of people around the area do. My father-in-law just retired from there. He was a draftsman. One of my son's boyscout leaders works at the R&D building and arranged a tour for us. That was pretty cool.
