Anyone coat the rocker panels?

Thinking of coating the rocker panels on my '03 Ram with Line-X or similar and was wondering if anyone has done that on a 3rd Gen truck? Any chance anyone has pics of this done on flame red? I would think flares would be a must with this look...

There's been discussion of this in the past, so you should be able to find those threads. The best I saw was a green truck with gray line-x sprayed to the same line a two tone truck would have the gray paint. You have to be very careful which product you get. Only a couple have a warranty for sun bleach proof colors. I'd hate to have faded colors on the side of my truck. I did see a white Dodge with black sprayed along the bottom, it didn't look too bad.

I have mine sprayed at the bottom of the doors. I like it and the Line-x people did a good job. I know it's black sprayed on a grey truck, but it still looks good and does keep the rocks from denting the doors

I went to my local permatech dealer and asked if they would do this to my red truck. He said they don't spray the rockers. He illustrated why by pointing to a door frame and saying that if they spray over the joint of the door and the frame that there would be no space between the two and they would hit.



I'm not the smartest man in the world, but I could think of a way to prevent that!!



I think he just didn't really want the job. It's not the standard spray job, and he thought I wasn't an educated consumer and that I would just give up on it. I'm looking for someone else to do it.

I had my 05 rocker panels sprayed with line-X when I had the bed done. I have had some complements regarding how it looks. The truck is white and I had the bottom sprayed black due to color fastness with white. They said thet wouldn't reccommend going with the white due to matching and keeping it matched witht the truck. Honestly I wasn't sure at first but now I really like the way it looks.

I wish I would have done it on my 98. 5. I will attach a picture when I go off shift and home in the morning.

I'm a LINE-X dealer.



No problem spraying rockers, fender flares, bumpers, or anything else for that matter (except chrome, can't spray chrome).

Does it chip off from big stones?

I had my homemade step bars done a couple years ago and it's holding up just great. I would not be afraid to do the body, except would worry a little about fading if colors were used.

Thermoplastic?

I live on a gravel road, so rocker panel protection is a must. Only had the truck three days and already noticed a few nicks. What about the thermoplastic panels sold in Cabela's automotive catalog? It runs $90 for 24 linear feet. I'm just not sure how durable it would be.

I paid 300 for the bed to be sprayed, seems a bit excessive for the rockers. I think about 125 would be reasonable + cost for color. Just my 2 cents!
