I got the old lady a set of scales for Christmas. Was teasing her about the size of her rear. Then I jumped on the old scales and hit the 195 mark. . WOW!!!

I'm always a 180-185. Seems I picked up 10 pounds and it all went to the gut. Just turned 28 in September, so the old metabolism must be slowin down. Sound familiar? Any ideas other than sit ups, which I am already doing, and HATE? Didnt Gahndi do a starvation diet once? I could do a hunger strike in protest of diesel fuel prices... yea, THATS IT! #ad

Hey Chad, it get worse - Let me tell ya. I see that your still a young'un. Wait the the 40's and then the 50's. I sort of laugh now but things as this will get ya. In the military I was a lean 190 fight'n machine. Then the 40's struck. Oh my __D its up to 210 but I'm still a lean fight'n machine but with a redefined edge. Then the 50's. Now its up to the 230 and hang to to your hat baby cause I'll get there. Just takes a bit longer. It about like deer hunting, let the young bucks shake the bush and us ole bucks will fine tune what falls. Guess the moral of the story is have fun reguardless of what the age thing is... . You can bet your last nickle though I'll be grab'in one more gear with the Cummins when that time comes. . Have fun doin' what ever... .

Sounds good to me. I just dont like the trend I am seeing. High school was a very lean and strong 165 weight lifting, wrestling machine. Marine Corps bootcamp put another 10 onto that, and I kept that 175 weight until I got out. Started lifting weights getting mean trying to impress the ladies and shot upto 185 after I got home. Now the only exersize I get is running to the time clock getting the jump on everyone #ad

I need a good thrashin from some Drill Instructor. Another 3 months of that would either kill me or make me better than I have ever been. I'm with you ICEMAN, I might be a fat a$$, but I can still make an engine scream and make my wife talk in tounges #ad

Chad,

Lots of exercise will do that to you. Especially those 12oz curls. After a few years you can join the dickiedoo club. That's when your belly sticks out more than your... #ad

I've also noticed a downward trend in the gut locale. All started when I moved to Louisiana. Been putting the pounds on steadily for about 4 years now. 20 pounds a year. Maybe this Total Gym in the corner can help with that. That is if I ever get it out of the corner.

HaHa Chad I'm in the same boat as you're in. I went to the "Island" at 165lbs. Two weeks after that I weighed 140. Hard 2nd batallion PT. I maintained 170 of pure muscle till I got out and now I hit 200lbs. of pure table muscle. How I love those 1 inch thick steaks.

I've tried the sit ups thing and that just swole my stomach muscles up and pushed my gut out even farther. A friend of mine told me to get a bike and start riding a mile a day to start with. He said he tried an exercise bike but the real bike gave him faster results due to ever changing conditions of his ride.

Good Luck

Chad,it's just a fact of human anatomy,as you get older your metabolism gets more efficient. Too many people in this country try to fight it and that's where the real problems start, eating disorders, over exercising, methamphetimine etc. Many cultures regard being fat as being wealthy and wise. I say as long as you can walk to your truck without getting out of breath, can tie your own shoes and see your weaner you're doing ok.

Does using a mirror count?

I gained 25LBS after boot camp, then lost a lot of that when I got home and couldnt afford to feed myself as much as the Army gave me. Ft Sill had an excellent dining facility, and it looked like I was eating my last meal every 4 hours. I am happy that I just turned 38 and bumped up into a higher PT bracket. I have to take 2 record PT tests a year, but I still notice that the beer is starting to stick alot more than it used to...

Weight gain is something to be expected with winter and the holidays upon us. When I got out of the USMC in 1991 I weighed in at about 175 lbs. Through the years I've gone up to my present 200 lbs and back down to 190 lbs and back up again. In my case I have noticed that this weight gain/loss is directly dependent on the amount of physical activity I do. What I eat doesn't seem to matter all that much.

I'm 31 now and the older I get, demands of family, work, etc make it harder for me to want to exercise. When I'm not at work I like to relax and do things that seem not too physical. It seems to be the American way these days to become fat and out of shape. Since I spend lots of time on this PC that doesn't help much either.

I do have a limit on how far I will let myself go and that limit is determined on how my clothes fit me. When they get too tight, I get the weight off somehow.

165 lbs out of USMC boot camp, maintained about 175 while on duty (active service time and reserves), now 230ish. Reading this thread I'd have to say guys are a heck of a lot more carefree about revealing their weight then gals! How many women you know wouldn't care about publishing their weight for the whole world to read?!

Besides, I'm not overweight I'm just undertall at 5'1"... . (that's a joke, I'm taller then that -- 5'2").

dmurdock,No a mirror doesn't count, nor does using a pair of 12" needle nose pliers for tying your shoes. You know you got it real bad when you need two mirrors at an angle to each other to see your weaner. I'm 6'2,230 lbs, can tie my shoes and see my weaner without looking down #ad

GETTING???????

I'm afraid I arrived a long time ago.

I weighed about 150 until about '84 or so, and then suddenly, my weight ballooned to -censored- and slowly rose to -censored-, whereupon it has remained relatively steady for the last several years. I've noticed that even though the weight hasn't moved much from -censored- the waist dimension keeps going up. I used to be a mere 28 inches when I was 25... Now it's -censored- and keeps climbing.

Just as soon as school is over and I can actually get time to do it, I'm starting something physical I like doing and going to get back down to -censored- from my current -censored-.

I've also found something different from my younger years... I can add muscle much easier. Not only do I get stronger faster, the muscles get bigger faster. I never had any muscles as a kid, no amount of working or working out ever gave me even any.
