I am contemplating making a still to manufacture my own diesel. I have been doing a little research and found a neat organization in Boulder, CO that is sponsored by the CSU engineering department. They are running all the Univeristy deisels on recycled deep fry oil from local resteraunts. Here is there link:

http://www.boulderbiodiesel.com/

The chemestry is interesting and uses Lye (sodium hydroxide) and Isopropal to catalyze titrate the oils.

Anyway, just wanted to know if there is any experience on this forum doing the chemistry before I get real involved with the tree huggers in Boulder.

Search the general topics forum for "Biodiesel" posts. You'll find a few threads there. There are also several web sites dedicated to it. I've been home-brewing for about 5 years now. I know other TDR members that have been doing it a while also. There are plenty of pros and cons. With current fuel prices the pros are adding up.

you actually shouldn't need a still unless you are looking to recover methanol which is usually used. Unless you like to make your own alcohol which is always a bonus. ;) check out www.journeytoforever.org for different ways to make it. Or you could even run straight vegetable oil if its heated. lots of info there.
