Anyone ever painted Xenon Flares themselves?

Just got a set of Xenon Flares; had planned to do the prep/painting myself, but instructions mention using certain cleaners, adhesion promoters, and making sure the paint is for flexible polyurethane type materials. I figured some sanding, priming, and painting would be simple. Think I'd be better off just taking it to a body shop? What would be a good $ figure for painting 4 flares?

You should take them to a shop. You will spend more on materials not to mention your time plus you need the right equipment to spray the paint. However all the materials you need are readily available at your local automotive paint supply store for the do it your self

A friend is painting mine as we speak. He runs a body shop, but on the side he does some small stuff in his shop at home. He said something about using urethane based (2 or 3 stage paint whatever that means) because it stays flexible. He's painting my 4 (xenon) flares and 4 steel (10"x16. 5") rims for $200.

Just got a quote for $350 :--) I asked if that included installation, and the guy said no :--) People in this part of the state (Wyoming) think that everything they do is worth twice what you'd pay in the world of reality. will get a few more quotes locally, then maybe look in Billings MT or Rapid City SD. I expected 150. 00, so that's what I'll shoot for.

My Xenon flares were $300 to paint and install. There is a flex agent that is added because of them being eurothane. That is why they cost more to paint than Bushwackers, ect.

Krylon Plastic Fusion Paint will cover them but look like crap.



If you're going to paint them you want them to match the truck paint and that's not so easy. It probably needs a base/clear coat with flex agent in both and an etching primer to hold it on. Minimum of three coatings but better with two or three coats of clear.

If you can find a shop who'll do it for about $150. you ought to grab the chance.
