I've read on the bottles of Power Service fuel additive that it pays for itself with mpg increases. I am very sceptical of this claim. Has anyone had any real mpg improvments with any brand of fuel additive?

Nope

Nope, just cleaner injectors and elimination of poor starting and rough running after startup.

No, it's too difficult to tell without running a very controlled test. There is too much mpg variation from one fillup to the next to tell if an increase is really the result of an additive or due to other factors. I've never been able to say one way or the other and I track my mileage carefully--I've have not seen an increase in the overall average mpg.

I've never noticed any difference running powerservice, or any of the other available additives as far as mpg is concerned. The main reason most people use the additives is for lubricity, stability, and most importantly water dispersal.

The main reason I really want to try some additives is to eliminate the knocking/pinging sounds that seem to be getting louder. Maybe one of my injectors is a little dirty.

I use about 8 oz of Power Service at every fill-up. Assuming that I pump 30 gallons of #2, and add another 8 oz (1/16 of a gallon) of fuel treatment that is not reflected in the pump readings, my math tells me to expect a 0. 2% increase in MPG because of the additional 8 oz of unmetered fuel that has been added. That would be about 0. 04 MPG increase (at 20 MPG). Any improvement above that would be from the positive effects of the fuel treatment.

I make myself believe that if I use Power Service Kleen 16oz to 25gal 6 Cetane boost, that I get about 1mpg better. But I haven't done any real tests to prove it. I normally use 8oz to 25gals, mainly for the cleaning and lubrication. I usually buy Wally-World Murphy(No telling where it comes from) diesel because its cheap, so I assume any additional protection I can give the Cummins is a good thing.

I actually see a decrease in MPG when using power service. Not sure why. I have found excellent results with Valvolene Synpower Diesel additive. It has the Cummins endorsement right on the label. I see definate mileage increases using it, especially pulling. I hope that helps!!

I'm sure some may think this is crazy or not true but I usually don't run any additive in the summer and I average about 18. 2 MPG. However, in the fall of 2003 I purchased some Lucas fuel additive and had an increase to a shade over 20 MPG. Summer of 2004 I once again stopped adding the conditioner and the mileage went back to 18 to 18. 5 MPG. This last fall I purchased Stanadyne and started putting it in according to directions. Right now for the last 1,200 miles I've averaged right at 20. 2 MPG.

This is combined city and freeway driving with the majority on the freeway at 66 to 67 MPH.

I use a product called SUPER DIESEL PLUS made by LUBECORP here in calgary. I went from 18mpg in the city to 22 and from 28 highway to 36mpg. I never leave home without it! They have gas version as well that i run in my wifes neon and it gets her another 100km's per tank. 1 litre of the stuff treats 500 litres of fuel and it runs about $14. 00 per litre.

Chevron Delo Injector Cleaner

Anyone used the Chevron Delo Fuel Injector cleaner? I started noticing that my 98. 5 CTD was not firing up as quick as it usually does. I immediately thought of those furds that crank and crank and finally fire up. Started to concern me. Anyway, I just walked in to an AutoZone, and saw some fuel Injector cleaners. I asked the attendant if they had something for Diesels, and they pointed out the Chevron Delo Fuel Injector cleaner. I decided to buy it, especially since that's the brand of Motor Oil I'm using. To make a long story short, that fixed my concern. My truck fires up really quick now. My question is, how often should I use an additive/fuel Injector cleaner, and what do you all think of the Chevron Delo Injector Cleaner and Motor Oil? Oo.

I started using power service at around 35 thousand on my truck and I think my mileage went up by 1/2 to 1 mpg but with such a small increase I could not be certain. My driving is not duplicated over and over so it was hard to tell. Also my fuel system may have been cleaned with it to give the better mileage.

I switched to primrose about 18 months ago and it doesn't measurably change it. I am on the original Inj pump and second lift pump and hoping the additive makes those things last longer.

FWIW - A couple years ago there was membe (illflem, some may remember him) who performed a pretty controlled test of fuel additives. The only one he seen any increase in MPGs from was Howes Meaner Power cleaner.

Personally I can't say I see any increase or decrease in MPG's from all the additives I have tried. Sometime is seems like I got a few more miles out of a tank but my driving habits vary so much it is hard to tell.
