Anyone had adjustable pedal problems?

I just bought a used 2005 Laramie 2500 4x4 w/ 76K miles and it the brake pedal has 3 inches of side play. This is very unnerving as you have to press straight down or it will shift 20 degrees to the left.



I'm sure it must have been damaged by the previous owner somehow, but I wondered if anyone out there has replaced the assembly. If so how difficult was it and what did it cost?



In studying the problem, it looks like there's a nylon sleeve or collar inside the drive gear assembly that might have been damaged. Replacement of the assembly looks to be fairly difficult.



I don't have a manual, but that might spell it out better. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes with less the 65,000 miles on my 08 I had to have mine replaced lucky it was covered under warr. I feel this is a defect with dodge but they say no ???????????

I have read of other people also having problems with alot of play in the adjustable pedals... at one point in time I had thought that I might want to mod my truck to take them, but now I am glad that I did not (decided it was too much trouble with switches and wiring and all)...

Which brings up a possible solution to your problem, maybe you could just easily replace the pedal with a NON-ADJUSTABLE version from the same year/generation, rather then rebuilding it with a nylon sleeve which will likely only fail again.

The power to non power would be an easy swap if you have a bit of mechanical skills

I may consider that, but likely would still have to buy parts to convert back. And I do like the ability to adjust them, so I think I'll try to retain it, in hopes that it's not too spendy. If need be, I can call the dealer for an estimate. The flat rate hours will give me some idea as to the difficulty.



If anyone has the shop manual R&R, I'd appreciate an opinion as to how tough the R&R process is.

You might be able to have one made of brass that will last.
