Anyone had this happen on a 06?

Got home tonight, the truck is running well, I sat there in my driveway thinking what a great truck this is. Just before I shut her off I give it a little skinny pedal (revs to about 1600) to hear the exhaust - sounds good - I do it again - YIKES -it revs to 3300 without my help and sticks there. I hit the throttle two or three times and it drops back to 750. That would be a nightmare in traffic. No carpet or mat in the way, and this is stock except MBRP repacement muffler and AFE stage 2.

Any thoughts?

My 03' did something similar when my fuel pressure sensor was acting up. Not sure if it's the same thing. Dealer said if any dirt enters the system it can cause the sensor to do this. I however, unplugged my XZT and the problem went away.

Maybe the engine is running off of the AFE filter oil... ... :-laf

Thanks folks. No codes and the AFE is oiled properly. I will check with the Dealer on Monday or Tues. I will let you know if they have an explanation. Dont have my hopes up though.

This is really a simple issue.



Even a stock truck will do this to an extent and a modified truck will do it worse. Basically what happens is you pressurize the rail on a HIGH PRESSURE common rail system. It is going to stay there for a second or two before it de-pressurizes the rail. Think about it you mat it while at idle with no load on the motor, how do you expect it to relieve itself of the fuel in a microsecond? The fuel either has the be returned or burned and both of those take a second at 23K-24K of fuel pressure.



Now it does not matter what type of aftermarket part you have they will make this a little worse. IF you need to do this just know in 2-3 seconds it will go back to idle on its own. It seems like an eternity, but knowing how the fuel system works this is to be suspected.



Obviously in gear, or while driving this will not happen. If you onw a 6spd and you do not let off of the skinny pedal when you shift it will sort of do the same thing until you get a load back on the engine.

Thanks for your explanation. That makes sense. It was absolutely more than 2-3 seconds though, more like 6 or 7. You are sure right about it seeming like an eternity. Anyway, I wont be doing that again.

The odd thing is when I goose the throttle, I never mat it. . Just a tap, and it went to full throttle. . I can definitely understand what you're saying though. .
