275 question

I have the RV injectors sold by TST Products in my 98. 5 with 24valve Cummins. I seem to recall they are rated at 275 hp. Are these the same as you are referring to as '275' injectors?

If so I also have an EZ Comp installed and am happy with it. The only problem I have had is a bit of jerking when running on level 1 - 1. Since I run at level 2 - 2 most of the time this is not a real problem. I understand I can get my unit updated, but am not sure if I will do it at this point. It seems the mileage is about the same, but I think the Edge Comp does reduce the EGT somewhat. I am pulling about 14,000 lbs with my auto and the 3. 54 ratio. Running about 68-70 I have been getting about 10 mpg which is quite reasonable with that much weight.

I have the 275's with the edge e-z and I am quite happy. I also have the bhaf and 4"exhaust. The tdr folks that have rode with me felt my truck did mighty fine. I am satisfied(for Now).

wweverett...

That is the reason I put the Ranchhand on the front of my truck! My '92 got three dear and one drunk driver in 7 years. Cross your fingers for the '99, none of the above so far... . ;)

Sorry for drifting off subject... What was it again??? Oh yeah, 275 and EZ combo...

I was wondering, if you are planning to tow heavy (20K - 24K), how would DD1's and a EZ work together as far as EGTs go (stock exhaust minus muffler)? I think DD2's might be a little much. I don't want to go with really big injectors... my power has to be useable power.

275s. EZ, stock auto trans??

Common (logical) advise, is that a stock auto trans won't last very long with 275s and EZ combo. I noticed that many of the signatures with this combo do not list trans upgrades. Anybody care to comment on the 275/EZ/stock trans combination?

I pull a 6500# TT and would like a bit more power towing and some light street play at the same time.

After installing the 4" exhaust and mega-cannon, I see where I would want the trans upgrades, but I would like to hold off for a year or so. btw, my EZ is on my bench waiting for me to install and gauges (6) are on order :D

Remember, the question is the longevity of a stock auto trans with the 275/EZ combo.

Edit: Perhaps I missed it... are most of the sigs with this combo and w/o trans upgrades, manual trans, while sigs with this combo and auto trans, do list upgrades????

upgrades to transmission

Rock-n-rammer,

Yes, I have the 275's and the EZ Comp and had to upgrade the transmission. Initially I had just added the injectors with the hope of stopping there for a while, but the added torque at lower throttle possitions cause the lockup clutch to slip in the 45-65 mph range. I took it very easy for the rest of the camping season (I pull a 14,000 fifth wheel), did a L O T of research and ended up with the ATS triple disk converter and valve body. It is not cheap, but what a tremendous difference!!! I now have solid lockup, better shifting, more effecient torque converter... ... ... ... better all around. It worked so well I added the EZ Comp. There are many good aftermarket transmission upgrades as can be seen by brouseing that subject, but I highly recommend ATS. Their method of increasing holding ability is much more scientific than just turning up the pressure as everyone else seems to be doing.

Getting back to your original question - yes when adding even the upgraded injectors, you should upgrade the transmission too. It is my opinion that even with a stock engine, the transmission is marginal at best when pulling big loads.

phoekema,

Thank you for your response. It definitely matches the majority of experience and recommendation here on the TDR. I was "hoping" that the light (comparatively speaking) weight of my trailer and that the majority of my towing is on relatively flat ground, that I could sneak by for a short period of time. But, I expect common sense to prevail and I will wait for the trans before I inject, so to speak.

Future posts.....

Paul has responded with a fail and reasonable recommendation including his selection for trans upgrade. I highly value his response due to it's direct relation to my question.

PLEASE DO NOT start a transmission "discussion" in this thread as I do not want my post to contaminate rblomquist's original question!

I have the EZ and 275's. I have had the 275 in for about 2 weeks now and I really like the combo. I left the EZ on setting 3 and don't have a smoke issue but it's cold and winter fuel, maybe #2 and warmer temps will change this. No egt issues and my mileage is going up, I'd say 2 mpg so far. Mileage rating up here are tough to get as there is no interstate and you cannot just set the cruise and go for more that 50 miles.

I seem to remember that it was recommended that if you go bigger than 275's w/EZ on a auto and 9cm turbo that it was recommended that you change as you could have egt issues. I think LSFARM runs bigger injectors but Piers worked over his 9cm turbo.

I have a PE Comp and the 275 HP Injectors also. My transmission has been upgraded to a DTT and I have a wastegate elbow installed.

I just had to have my truck's emissions test done last week and they put it on a Dyno here to test it.

My truck shows 240 RWHP with the PE Comp shut off. With the PE Comp on level 5 and my Hortan fan clutch engaged for the second run (engine gets a little warm with the truck sitting still on the dyno), it measured in at 332 RWHP :D
