The one with the 9/16 socket head on it. Mine leaks like a sieve. I put it in last oil change and I noticed that there is more oil spots in my driveway than usual. Since my truck has been down for the last week and a half, I have about a quart sitting under it. It's time for another oil change so I'm going to stick the old one back in and see if the problem goes away.

Anyone else with this problem?

I am sure I will catch a ration for this stupid trick.....

I changed my oil once, and failed to put the washer back on the plug. It leaked. Put the washer back on and the leak immediately disappeared.

Check to see if you have the washer on there and if you do, get a new one.

I bought this valve from the link below:

This valve has worked great. Absolutly no mess. I think its the same one available at Geno's.

I have there plug, no leaks so far but i did notice the threads were not cut as tight as the factory ones. But with a good gasket, there should never be a leak, i would go with check the gasket.

I've got the Geno's heavy duty plug on mine and love it. It doesn't leak at all and it beats the heck out of the factory one.

I have the Geno's HD plug, made by IRRGANG? Racing, installed with New Gasket it came with, reused the same gasket 2X already, not one leak, 44ftlbs to toque it, very please with it.

Now the "catch all" puke bottle I got from them has gone on, come off and been thrown in the trash; but the plug's in to stay.

Jeff, I just went thru the same thing 2 weeks ago. Changed oil and fractured 2nd OEM drain plug since the truck was new. Installed spare OEM drain plug but could not stop oil leak around the washer with 45 lbs of torque. Screw this noise. Ordered a super plug and waited a week. Installed that puppy with new OEM washer and still had the leak???
Back to the drawing boards.
Ordered an EZ drain plug from Geno's and waited another week. Now truck is down for 2 weeks. .
Prior to installing EZ, drained all oil again for the second time and inspected the area around the drain hole. Lord and behold, on my pan the pan sheetmetal is NOT flush. It concaves inward (dimple) toward the baffle. The steel washer is not adequate for sealing irregularities such as I observed in my pan without torquing the plug and hoping for the best (or worst).
I went to NAPA looking for a Dorman fiber oil seal #09-023 (Issue 17, page 82). They crossed reference it to BK gasket #704-1044 for 29 cents each and I got 2. Installed the EZ with 2 NAPA fiber washers and discarded the thin copper washer that originally came with the EZ. Snugged her up hand tight and gave it another 1/2 turn with the wrench. NO leak at all!!! Best of all, no need to monkey around with removing drain plug and chancing future oil leaks, fractured plug, and the dreaded stripped oil pan threads. .
Do yourself a favor and get one of those easy drain plugs from Geno's.

PS - I have the super plug if you're interested. Just send me an email.

As ltamarra said, on some trucks, once you overtorque the plug (usually to the point of fracture), the sealing surface of the pan can become distorted so no matter how many new plug/gasket sets you put on, it will leak. I had this happen on my 96. Another owner told me to put a second gasket between the OEM gasket and the pan. I have been doing this for several oil changes and the plug does not leak at all. I am now using 1/16" cork sheet material - I cut out a new gasket and torque the plug to 25 ft/lbs.
