Material of choice for fuel tank

I have a Magellan RoadMate. I paid $1,300 at Comp USA a few months back. I saw them at Sam's Club last week for under $1,000 :{ .

It works great, it's portable, and you can even use it on your quad if you have the 12V plug (my Grizzly has one, don't know about other quads).

I mostly like it because it attaches to the windshield and I can move it around and use it in all my trucks and cars. The only problem I've found is that the streets of some newer housing developments won't show up. You can update it though with a computer connected to the internet so maybe I just need to do that more often :D .

I have the magellan meridian color also & like it very well.

I carry it anytime I'm travelling, saddlebag of the bike, drybox on the boat & suction cupped to the windshield of what ever vehicle I'm driving/riding in when I'm out of town. I trust it enough to let it worry about how to get back to the hotel, airport or home.

I have the CoPilot, byTravRoute, division of ALK www.travroute.com This unite uses a laptop and has a inside antenna. It can be purchased from them or Camperworld. Got mine on sale at Camperworld. It has speech and listens for your commands. a new improved edition has come out each year, and they send offers to you via your E-mail, they also have smaller units, hand held. It has a few draw backs but nothing that I can't live without.

I have the navigation system and I am very impressed with it, I recommend it if you are actually going to use it, otherwise, wha5t is the point right?

GPS and Laptop

I prefer it that way. :) Just made a 1500 mile run and just one minor glich (my fault). I run with a Magellen SportPro tied in with Power and data cord to my IBM 600x Laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 (much better then to 2003) probablly much easier to make changes with the laptop during the trip too.

I am pondering ordering the Nav system Would like your opinion regarding if Dodges Nav is worth it of course it's about 750 bucks with the H pkg. My wifes honda nav system is great.

Thanks

I have the CD driven version in my 04. 5 2400 CTD and thus far it has worked great. Even has some streets we did not think would be on it.

Good luck

the dell axim system with the pharos navigation software is less then 700 dollars, can be moved to any vehicle in less then 2 minutes and is pretty clean system and easy to use, not to mention it does not take up valuable cargo storage room, can mount anywhere or drop it in the console when you dont need to have things to watch besides good looking ladies admiring your truck.

i got my own not from the company it's from garmin and it was 300 has everything except color lcd and voice commands this one just beeps when your turn is approaching and it's a portable too it can mount in the truck or be a handheld... i'm not sure what's up with the ones that come in it i know the streetpilot was way too much just to have color i mean what a rip i guess it would be cool to have but i was looking to get something for both on foot and in the truck so the garmin 5 is awesome

I use MS Streets & Maps 2006 with my DieselPuter and love it. I use GPS for work and depend on accuract mapping, I can't say enough on how much better a PC based GPS is over a stand alone unit in terms of readability and functionality... ... ... .

does anyone have the RB1 ? how does it compare? i got a price of $ 799 brand new.

:) Thats a good price, I bought 2 on e-bay and they both were at a cost of $800. 00. I have one installed in my 2004. 5 dodge ram and the other I installed in my 2001 TJ Wrangler I have sirius radio on both of them and they both have interactive map displays. These are much beter then the RB4 model. The new and updated map cd is released this next month and will be selling at the cost of $150. 00 a cd.

I had the RB4 put in my 04. 5 at the factory. What a POS. Now I have a 12" diagonal laptop with the Garmin GPS 18 USB. The unit is the size of a snuff can and gets its power from the usb port. The 12' laptop makes a real large GPS screen. I made a swival top table in front of the consol and use a power supply that plugs into the accessory jack. This makes a real SWEET GPS and easy to see and read

I bought a Lorrance I Way 500C last year and love it. A little over $600 with shipping. The latest software update added a lot of new features and i just got a message on the GPS that a new version of the GPS main software is available. just have to log on to their website and download it. It also has a built in MP3 player which really adds to the value for me. I can use it on my motorcycle, golf cart and in my 5th wheel for constant music as well. They now have a completely "portable" self powered version that's great if you like walking/hiking, off road biking... . anything that would not have 12 volt batteries involved, lol.

Last Month I picked up the New ALPINE "Blackbird" and have been really impressed with it's usefullness.

I was going to Florida and I thought if there was anytime to get one now would be it. I feel I am very good with maps but the fact that it can find points of interest as well as where your going is nice to know. Also my Fiance is blond err I mean "Map Challenged" ;)

Best thing was - as I was driving, my Sat radio crapped out (pinched antenna cable) I was outside Savannah GA. I Just put in "Best Buy" in the GPS and 8 miles later I had a new Antenna. Made the drive home that much better.

Paid slightly less than $700. Ease of use with the touch screen and the fact that I can switch it from Vehicle to Vehicle makes it very handy.

For variety's sake:

I have a bluetooth gps receiver velcro'd as far forward on the top of the dash as I can get it, and use my Verizon xv6700 PPC phone with Mapopolis software velcro'd to the dash so I can see it. I love it, but this solution can be timid- The xv6700 is... "tempermental". I don't depend on my phone (I don't care if I miss calls) so I don't mind it, but it is probably not the best solution for someone that really needs a solid phone.

I will probably install an Eclipse 6. 5" nav system at some point in time.

Mark.
