I am debating on buying a set of black wheels for my dodge. Just wondering if anyone has these, and how/what is the best way to care for them. WE all know chrome steel aftermarkets are short lived in that chrome peels and starts to rust through. Just wondering how long before black coated aluminum does the same, or is it durable? obviously you'll get a scratch now and then. Just curious, thanks!

I've had black Mojave Teflons on my '06 for over a year now without a hint of failure on them. When I wash them they still look like they're brand new. I've had black powdercoated steel Rock Crawlers on my '97 for 3. 5 years. They are starting to show signs of rust. I'm not too sure how coated aluminum would hold up. It wouldn't rust, but aluminum does oxidize. I guess there's only one way for you to find out.

I have a set of Weld Velocity rims on my truck that were media blasted and then powder-coated black. They have been on the truck for 8 months and 10,000 miles. They show no signs of wear, chipping, flaking, or scratches. In my opinion black wheels are the way to go. Even when the wheels are incredibly dirty they look clean.

Good luck to you!

Here are a couple of pictures of my wheels for a visual:

black wheels

I have black wheels, but I just painted the stock steel wheels. I think they look good enough I'm not going to spend the money to get aluminum ones.

Of course, the red hub caps make it.

I just sandblasted and powder coated a stock aluminum wheel. I did that 3 years ago and they are holding up great still

I've seen Tommygun's truck and wheels and they do look good! Another option is the factory chrome wheels... just pry the crome cover off and you have an 8. 5" wide black wheel, with factory backspacing.

I have American Racing Mojave's - they are the teflon coated ones. I wrapped them in 295 Terra Grapplers. Here is a pic, sorry for the dirty truck, but that's how I roll. They didn't have the right center caps when I had then installed. I'll post up a more recent picture when I'm outdoors the same time the sun is out!!!

CEsposito, is that a flat black with clearcoat? Regardless, I like the look of your wheels and plan on having a local shop powder coat mine. I am told there are various black colors to choose from but would like to match the ones in your photos. thanks
