Anyone have pics of a 1st gen with Alcoa 16" rims?

Looking at a set of these rims for the 1990 but I am not sure how they will look on the body.



Anyone have these and can post a pic?

I think those are the wheels that are on gr8 white at the top of this forum arent they? Just wider on that one. I think it was four wheeler, or petersons that did/had the write/build on that truck years ago.

I don't have any pics of the alcoas on my computer, but I had a set on my '90, and I've got a set on my '93 dually right now, the set that came off of my '89. I also had several sets of the American Eagle O58s, single and dualled, which look very similar, maybe a little more rounded on the inner ridges, than the Alcoas. I loved 'em both. I ran several sets of tires on my '90 and never balanced them!! They had to be roatated a little more regular, but if they were balanced, I could run them 30k and never rotate!! (not that you would want to... . I was running highway treads in front at the time... freebies. ) I think you'll love 'em if you buy 'em. Obviously, you are going to keep the truck... Also, just as a side note, if you find an older set of Ford rims, 95-97, they are probably Alcoa's..... I don't like the Ford center cap, but the wheels can be bought cheap in the wrecking yards..... Southwest wheel is about the only dealer in this area, and they are higher than..... , than,... ... well, they cost more than personal services!!



If you are looking for a similar wheel about half the price, but still made better than most(not as good or tough as the Alcoas), check out American Eagles 058 Series..... they also have a 16x7 available... ... Eagle Alloy Wheels

HH - Thanks for the great info! I had never considered any of the other wheel brands but I REALLY like the 058s that you linked too. Kinda like the bigger holes in the wheel. Was always my complaint on the Alcoas... . so small!

SW wheel was ironically the place I was going to order the alcoas from. Seems to be cheaper even with shipping than anything I can get up here!



All plans are out the window now, minus the plan that I think I am goping to be getting new rims for the dd! Oo.

Southwest wheel is one of the exclusive dealers here in Texas; I think there's only two in the whole state. I liked the appearance of the 058s better, myself. I liked how the edges were rounded instead of square looking, and they were less than half the cost of the Alcoa's. I bought some factory blems for around $300. I think a set now is around $450. That's one of the few good things about living so close to the DFW area.

I do like those bigger holes... . Mind you I can mill the alcoas, but I dont want to compromise the structuaral integrity of the rim.



This is a tough call. Wonder if the alcoa center caps will fit the 058s?

I also like the American Eagle 058s. As far as the center caps go I do not like the chromed style - always rust. I have found some SS center caps at "Wheels For Less" that shound work better in Portland OR - rain or salt states. The exception, for Portland, is if American Eagles center caps are aluminum(sp).

I'll agree on the chromed center caps, but let me surprise you, there. Eagle Alloys makes Stainless Steel ones, both for the 3/4 and 1 ton apps. They're not readily avialable at all distributors, but they can be ordered, unless they've discontinued them in the last 6 months... .



These are eagles on my '93 Fronts, and I have Alcoa's on the rear, drilled for the Mag style lugnut. The Alcoa fronts are in storage, but will go back on with the next set of tires, which is rapidly approaching.

You sir are wanting the finest, strongest and bestest wheel you could ever put on a 1st gen. For some reason I don't think they look right on 2nd or 3rd gens... but are my hands down favorite for 1st gens.



I found this pic of a first gen along time ago and saved it. Mainly because the truck is identical to mine... and the Alcoas on it are the ones I want. I'm not even sure Alcoa makes them any longer however



But... Centerline Wheels makes nice forged aluminum wheels that are identical to these and the Alcoas with handholes in them. Or as close as you can get. And they have HD weight ratings on them. Centerline has been making quality wheels for some time... especially drag star type wheels.

Check out the wildcat and bullet if you like the original style Alcoas. If you like the BIG holes... see the scout. Wheel ratings are at 3200 LB each which is pretty good for 3/4 tons. Alcoa is 3750 LB.



I think the ones on this truck are Alcoas. I love the simple 5 star pattern. I'm not into the bling-bling 22's with 500 fake bolt rivets and razor blade jagged edges everywhere. They don't look right on a diesel unless its a show truck. The other day I saw a beautiful 1st gen with a Hillsboro aluminum flatbed on it. Only problem was it had HUGE 24's with low profile mud tires on it... fully chromed and blinged out. Completely out of place in my opinion on an otherwise nice Cummins 1st gen. Looked like they belonged on a lifted 77 Monte Carlo.



And I'm not too fond of all aluminum wheels with holes. I don't like fake rivets around the perimeter, or fake bead locks. I prefer a clean FLAT face with small holes. I don't even like American Racing Outlawss because the face is curved and they have the "rivets" on them. Just my opinion.



As well... Alcoa made the wheels you want for F250/350 SRW and E250/350 vans. Up to 1997 for the trucks... but changed the bolt pattern in 1999 to metric. But the Vans remain 8-6. 5 somehow... and I believe you can find deals on the aluminum rims from a van. If they are in good shape it might be a good deal.

I fully agree. I dont want bling here. I have a out of balance rim and that is where this all started. I am not a fan of aftermarket rims, but dont mind them if it suits the body.



I will not runn 20+ rims, or have the dorky bolt style, that is gasser crud. No place on a classy first gen either.



Centerline. I never thought about them! Great link. You pegged it too. I do like the scout. Alot. Dont mind the bullet either.



So many choices!



I am not opposed to used ones just dont like the fact that issues could come with it. Know too many people that got bad rims. Not worth the risk for the few hundred. Could end up costing more in the long run. And any scratches would bug the heck out of me! :-laf

I always remembered Centerline for making the Convo Pro... which they still do. Thats back when there were only about 5 cool wheel choices to go with if you had a 78' Z28 with traction bars and air shocks on back. The Centerline beadlocks look pretty "beefy" if you want a rock crawler look. They make some good wheels in general and always have.

As much as I would like the light weight and brake cooling ability, I just cant picture my truck looking good with aftermarket rims!
