Anyone have specs on the new 2007 diesel laws

in 2007 new epa laws for all diesels take effect, as I have been told, any diesel, any year, any application will have to meet stringent polution laws. I know one reg is NO SMOKE.



anyone else know specifics of the upcoming regs?

:{ :--) i don't see how they can back-date that sort of stuff. there is way too many old diesels out there to be able to enforce laws like that.

I'm glad i live in hickville, WI, where there is no polution enforcement, unless you find a REALY picky state trooper.

That would mean a 1980 GMC Dump Truck with a 6V92T Detroit is going to have to meet the emissions output of a new Cat C12 ACERT? I don't see how thats possible. Our Fleet of 1980's Mack Triaxles here at work could never ever pass a "no smoke" test. Guess were finished too!!



Surely its the same as a 1960 Chevrolet Belair doesn't have to have a catalytic converter.

Case in point: Some dumd butt lobbiest (in Ohio or the National Capitol) has this relative or close friend in the seat belt business... ... ... . and the sympothy of all parents sending children to school on a bus.



So this Bill is presented to install seat belts with shoulder harness into EVERY SCHOOL BUS



This would cut the carrying capacity of all buses in 1/2 or less. The State (of Ohio)/Nation could not contend with this :-laf



In short, if the State of Ohio mandates that seat belts are to be retrofitted into ALL buses, who... WHO is going to buy/pay for the schools new buses as well as increased number of personel to operate a much larger fleet in order to carry the same mumber of students?????????????????????????????

I don't know all the details of the new law, but the one i have confirmed is no smoke, that is if it stays in its present form.



There will be an add on kit for diesel that do not pass, something like a cat converter, and if i understand it correctly once you pay the 1k for the system your diesel will pass, smoke or no smoke.



again thats the one item I have been informed about.



hopefully I am wrong, just wondering if anyone else knew anything about this.

There have been other attempts to take older units off of the road before. However, the vehicle was legal when it was manufactured and as long as it has been maintained in specification and meets the original requirements, it is still legal . . . . this basically holds true for all 'permitted' types of activities under the Clean Air Act.



There may be some more stringent requirements in certain areas of the country that have pollution problems, i. e. certain counties in some states require an annual emissions inspection and others do not . . . . .
