Mrpbody, your the man! Just the details I needed! Great, looks like I'm going with stan's. Can't beat a 4" turbo back with no mods and direct bolt in! Not to mention a fair price yet. Call me anal, but I can't see spending money on a half 3" and half 4" system and then have to install uni-hangers or do mods to allow an optional 4" down pipe.

Just wondering if you ordered the system or not. I'm still looking and hunting. I asked Stan if he had it in stainless, but he doesn't. Also he didn't answer my question of the 4" down pipe if any truck mods had to be made.

I asked them about stainless, they said it would be something like $770. I haven't ordered it yet because I'm not sure how much benefit it will be to me w/ just injectors, turbo housing, slightly turned up pump and more timing. I'd like to know how big of a restriction our exhaust system really is. Mine's kind of rusty anyway though, maybe next spring I'll put it on anyway... :-laf

I had Stans install mine a couple of years ago. I happened to be driving by his shop and stopped in to price out a 4" system and got lucky on timing. Had it installed right there for a pretty good price. No complaints. Rip will treat you right also ;)

Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead but I'm exhaust shopping and searching to see what people have used.

DBrickel, do you have any pics of the exhaust installed on your truck? Is it a 4x4? If you don't mind saying, what did you have to pay just for the exhaust (not the install labor)? thanks!

I have Stan's 4" system. It fits 2wd and 4wd trucks. It also fits the club cab models. If you have a club cab, you install without cutting. If you have std cab, you need to shorten the one pipe. It's a real nice kit. It IS 4" from turbo back. My buddy also installed this kit on his 90 std cab 4wd truck. It uses the OEM hangers. The tailpipe comes with a weld on hanger (flat steel) to be welded on the tail pipe to go onto the OEM hanger. We didn't use the weld on method, we used a uni-hanger and cut it the bracket to fit the OEM hanger. Other wise, it was direct fit. It's the only true 4" direct fit without mods system I could find.

I'm not positive but I think BD Fuel Injection has a 3 1/2" system for our trucks. The last time I checked it used the orginal downpipe then flared out to the larger diameter.

Actually the 3 1/2" system is pretty good for most of our trucks... it will handle the exhuast volume just fine... course it doesn't sound the same as a full 4" back but it's not bad.

Stan's Headers 4" turbo back

Niki,

I am running the complete 4" turbo back system from Stan's Headers. It was easy to install. It uses all stock hangers EXCEPT for the tailpipe end. Reason is that there were several variations of its locale even on the same year so... Stan includes a hanger that you just need to weld on. It uses a Donaldson straight through muffler which, according to Stan, outflowed a straight pipe on the flowmeter. I tell you, it's huge and I like it. Good throttle response and EGT's dropped somewhat. The turbo whine got louder too. Nice part is that the downpipe is already to bolt in, providing you're running a 16-21cm exhaust housing. Rip leaves his downpipes unfinished because of the exhaust housing options. You'll also find Stan's Headers exhaust at dieselpro.net and truckperformanceplus.com. These are Stan's nephew and brother, respectively. Hope this sheds some light on your decision making. Have fun bombing and drive safely.

Aloha~

ok, i'll through a wrench in this- i'm installing a turbo mount pacbrake. what's the chances of making the 4" downpipe work with it. i may have to make my own. wonder if i can buy stan's without the down pipe

For those of you who bought the Stan's headers exhaust, did you buy directly from them? they have it listed for $475 on their website... . just wondering if any resellers have it for less?

I thought I saw a post on here listing other shops that sell the Stan's Headers exhaust but now I can't find that thread.

thanks.

Here it is, only had to go up a few posts. Or did you see something different somewhere else?
