5AM, alarm goes off for wifey, she leaves and I die till 6:30AM. Get up, coffee, two mile brisk walk. Go to work, 11AM sinking spell, keep busy, 3PM sinking spell. 5-6PM, dinner and difficult time staying awake. 9PM wifey goes to bed... Time for me too. Grrrrr. Here it is 10PM, I know I should be dead in bed, no such luck... WIDE awake. 1 cup coffee, 1 glass of tea for lunch. What gives?

I tend to have the same problem... :( I simply can't sleep at night! I do great if I stay up till 4AM sleep to 3PM and do it all over again, however I just can't go to sleep when most other people would.

Now my neighbors are starting to complain because I am making so much noise late at night by working in the shop. :( What to do?? Hate to upset my neighbors but I just can't sleep at night and have to work some time...

Sorry to get this a little off topic, but I am really bothered by knowing I am disturbing my neighbors.

Are you awake worrying or thinking about work, bills, problems etc. that are unresolved?

I lay awake sometimes because things are on my mind. Try to close out each day with a list of things to do tomorrow and it is easier to rest knowing that you will get to them in the morning. You might also try moving your excercise to the evening, or do both morning and evening. Helps me sleep better when I do my run in the late afternoon.

Not sure if any of these things help or not

That's exactly my problem. I have great difficulty falling asleep when I have something on my mind. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how not to slip into that cycle every once in awhile.

Been having this problem for a long time myself and it only got worse when I started my business up. I have the business and a regular full-time job, so I doubled my problem. However, last night I did try something a little different. I got comfortable in bed and read a book. My mind went from worrying about all the other things in life and focused more on what I had read. This seemed to make a huge difference. I know it was only one night, but my father is the same way I am and that is how he has overcome his sleepless nights. Just a thought.

A nice big glass of unsweet tea right before bed helps me sleep like a baby..... until about 3:00 AM when the bladder comes a callin'. :-laf

I always fall asleep between 3am and 5am with no regularity. Sometimes it's thinking about problems and solutions but I don't know what it is the rest of the time. I also get really tired around 6 or 7pm but if I do lay down and possibly fall asleep, I just wake up at 10 or 11pm and wont fall asleep by 5am.

The Long Island variety will put you to sleep too. :-laf

I find that I sleep much better when I excercise a couple of times a week. Usually this means lifting or bike riding after work. I try not to do this too late in the night. Sometimes I'll have a 10:30 PM hockey game and don't hit the rack till 1 AM! Late adrenaline is problematic for me. If I am a slug and don't do any activity during the week, then I do have sleep issues as alluded to.

If its a short time problem, get your Dr. to write you a script for some Ambien. If its long term, get him to order up a sleep study. I did and was surprised what I discovered.

My advise to you all that can't sleep: HAVE SEX WITH YOUR WIVES/GIRLFRIENDS! :D DUH!Oo.

Not to be confused with "your wife's girlfriends"...

That'll create a whole 'nuther set of problems...

I used to have the same problem because I used to eat right until I went to bed. I now try to quit eating about 2 hours before I go to bed and it's much easier to fall asleep.

Try this: Getting ready for bed, get a FAN and turn it on pointing any direction you desire, go to bed. Myself , I am a lite sleeper and ANY noise, I wake up. I found that by turning on a fan to "cover" the little sounds at nite, I am now sleeping more sound and longer. I used to get 4-5 hours a day, now am up to 6-7 and feeling better. Try it, it might just help, what do you have to loose..... sleep? :D

I read this here on the TDR from fellow member HAMMER. I was skeptical at first, but now have a fan running every nite.

Excellent post digger. I run a handful of sleep diagnostic centers, and am credentialed in sleep and neurodiagnostics. Ambien is a good short term solution (less than a week) to help get your sleep phase back in line.
