I am trying to sell my '03 (listed below in my sig. ); and have had very few hits. It has been on the TDR for about 45 days and on www.autotrader.com for approximately 14 days. I believe all together I have had about 8 bites on it but no one wants anything more than pictures. The truck only has 53K on it and I am asking between wholesale and retail with the big OBO behind it. Just wondering what suggestions anyone has for getting rid of it. I really dont feel eBay would be a good outlet because of the large listing cost at the end of the auction, plus I would like to get a fair price out of it. What do you think?

I don't like to hear that. I'm selling my '03 also and just put it on AutoTrader today. Did you do the listing that keeps it on there until it sells? IF so, did it allow you to put any significant description about the truck?

I took the middle size ad that lists it until it sells, gets it in the magazine and on the web (9 pics too), but only allows you to put in 176 characters! :( Thats barely enough to describe the essentials.

Around here everything is overpriced somewhat. My experience is to expect roughly 70-80% of private party, good condition, may be less where you are. :( Might find someone looking for "exactly" what you have.

I had mine in Craigs List for a week, I was asking $33K for my '05 2500 4x4 Quad etc... . I had six calls, two emails and three buyers more than willing to pay the $33K for my mineral grey CTD with 41K miles. I decided mid week not to downsize my truck for business needs and keep her around. I basically consider it like having an expensive office with a million dollar view, how do I do it and actually get work done

I did purchase the "package" where it runs until sold. I did not notice that it held me to 176 characters. Seemed that I entered all the information about it and did not run out of room. KParsons I hear you, dont disagree. I just want a fair price. I think I will hang on a bit longer and revisit the price when I "re-up" in the auto trader. I have had mind listed on Craigs list for about 45 days, all I get from there is someone wanting to list it for me in other areas, not wanting to buy.

I think many of the used trucks are over priced in relation to the new prices on trucks. I have looked at selling my 2004 3500 SRW Laramie. The online services say that the truck is worth Mid $20s with 170K miles. You can go buy a new truck with 0 miles for Mid to upper $30s. If I can go pay $35K for a new truck, a 2004 with average miles (not mine) should be $12 to 15K less??? Many of the truck on the TDR classifieds are in the upper $20s to low $30s. That is within $3K to $5K of the same truck with no miles and full warranty.

Also, I think many people want to recoupe the full cost of the add ons. Many of these add little or no value to the subsequent owner. Many times they want to customize it differently than you did.

My . 02 is that many people shop for 'monthly payment' amounts. With the current 0% for 60 mos. promotion, they can buy new for the same payment as buying used.

AutoTrader, seems to be more of a window shopping guide from what I have seen and how I have used it.

On my old truck I did the Auto Trader thing and got one phone call after two weeks. Yes it was priced right. Then I put the $5 or $10 add in the local paper and it was sold that day.

Go with eBay. You probably will not get what you are asking but at least you'll sell it.

I have had good luck with 4 out of the 5 vehicles I sold on ebay.

Good luck.

I started out looking for a used 03-05 QC. Bought my new 06' Mega for $2-$3k more than going used price. The interest rate on new vs. used made the monthly payment the same.

The only people paying KBB is the insurance companies, the downside is you have to total it, theres still a lot of 06's on the lots and the prices are rock bottom, if you aren't forced to sell now it may get better after April 15 next year

You hit the nail on the head with this one. I had the same problem trying to sell my 03. I realized nobody will buy your truck at the fair price based on book value guidelines no matter what extras you have on because there is alot of new ones for only 2-3k more. I ended up selling mine below wholesale. Sucks to let it go for that low, but only way to unload it. My local dealer has 3 new remaining 06 quads LB, loaded 30,100 now. With alot of used 1-3 yr old trucks with various miles selling for the high 20's and low 30's, you wont have buyers when they can get new for 30,100 now.

I'd just put in best offer and take whatever the next willing person would give you. It may not be the price you want but at least you'd have a willing buyer to take the truck off your hands. It sucks but thats the way it is now and may be that way for some time.

I dropped the price $1,200 and have had many calls. Seems that people are looking for a truck with EVERYTHING on it they want. The callers seem to not even care that mine has been garaged, has no dents, and only a couple of scratches, and Oh brand new tires. I have had two strange calls about it asking if it had a 5th wheel hitch in the bed. I reply no, and it seems the deal is off. Seems strange to me because most people who pull 5th wheels should have their hitch already, and most are probably very brand specific in what make and model of hitch they like/want. But, none-the-less I have had many calls. I actually found a grocery store parking lot close to my house and sit is up there this weekend. I got 6 calls in 2 days; I have only received 2 calls through the autotrader. Seems sitting out along the road is a better way to sell now. Just an FYI to anyone else trying to sell.

I just had a guy put a deposit on my '03 this morning. We agreed to $21800. He really wanted it to have a gooseneck hitch and he used it as a bargaining chip when we negotiated. He wanted some more off for tires, but I stood my ground. When the final agreement was made, I got $640 below KBB for a truck listed in good condition with tires that will need to be replaced soon. He also got a full tank of fuel out of me (it's got 1/2 a tank now). How did I do?

Funny thing is I just paid $55 to list it on Cars.com yesterday about 20 minutes before he called and he saw the ad in Autotrader. Oh well.

Probably did ok considering it needing a set of tires. Mine has 52K on it, and I am asking $25,475; seem to be getting bites on it by the day. Hopefully it will go in the next couple of weeks!!

Congrats Spooled-up!

What are you going to get now? I am surprised you did not get more for you truck it was really nice looking and very clean.

I agree. Selling things becomes difficult as Thanksgiving approaches; most people are starting to worry about how much they will spend for Christmas. Then in January, the Christmas bills begin to arrive. A small "window of opportunity" for selling opens in late February/early March as the bills are paid off, but closes quickly as April 15th and tax worries come over the horizon. AFTER April 15th selling really picks up -- but, your truck is almost another model-year older.

Two things to do in the meantime, that you have undoubtedly already thought of: 1) Keep the truck detailed and clean as a whistle; and 2) Have ALL the paperwork, original documents, window sticker, oil/filter change, maintenance and repair invoices, bills, receipts, brochures and instructions for add-ons, and everything else etc. , organized in a large 3-ring binder with divider-tabs, on the seat of the truck. Those two things are what convinced a buyer to pay $4,400 for my '81 Chevy gas 1-ton dually crewcab, when bluebook was around $2,900.

Nice to hear from you Bertram65. We found out that rear facing baby seats weren't going to fit in the back of the quad cab with my seat extended to where it needs to be. With the dog in the truck on road trips, he needed to be on the passenger side fold flat floor, so we couldn't put the baby seat in the middle. My ONLY option was to get a Mega Cab. I hate to lose the long bed, but the wife loves the extra room and says she will be riding in the back with the baby while I become her "driver". I've got my buddy out here convinced I'm getting a mini van and I'm going to pull up in the '07 Mega and make him jealous!

The truck was clean, but I can see how some people might hesitate when they see all the mods I did to the truck and then took off - its all in the maintenance log, and I don't want to hide anything. I really didn't think I'd get over what KBB would be especially with the condition of the tires. They only had about 1/8" of tread left. I stripped off almost every accessory except for a few, and I hadn't drilled anything except the exhaust manifold. He got a good deal, but felt like he paid too much, and I felt like I gave a little too much, so I guess we both feel the same way. It's kind of like union negotiations. If both sides feel like they got screwed, it's a good contract.

Whenever we go anywhere, it's me and the dogs in front and my wife and daughter in the back, not sure how this is going to work out when the second child comes, I could be looking to change out my quad cab also, I have been trying to sell it that the mega cab has so much room in the back the dogs can lie on the floor, she is not buying into it yet. .

Sounds like you did alright on your truck, tough to complete with the dealers when selling vehicles with low interest rates and all, I bet if I try and sell mine being and ST I will be lucky to get in the high teens for it, guess I will wait and see if it comes to that.

How soon till you get the new one? same color?
