Anyone heard of a PTO winch made for the 6-spd? There are PTOs on the transmission, but have not hear do anything to connect to 'em.

Wiredawg,I had a '64 PowerWagon with a PTO winch,it was a pain, there was a clutch and gear box right at the winch, the whole unit probably weighed 700 lbs.
If you want to go with a non-electric wench, get a hydraulic one. They are readily available, just hook up a pump to the PTO on the transmission, routing hoses is easier than driveshafts. Once you have hydraulic power you can use it to power an air compressor ,generator or they even have backhoes that mount in the bed. Good way to go.

PTO's (Power Take Off) can run winches, compressors, pumps and generators for examples. A PTO winch can be mechanical (uses a drive line) or hydraulic (uses pump and hoses). It is very hard to find mechanical PTO winches these days unless you go big.

Here are some winch/pto urls in case you get bored: http://www.ramsey.com http://www.rawson-koenig.com/ http://www.warn.com/ http://www.dpwinch.com/ http://www.milemarker.com/ http://www.superwinch.com/ http://www.ptospecialties.com/

FYI - The advantage of running the PTO off transfer case vs the transmission pto port is that you can select the speed that the accessory runs at using the gears of the manual transmission (not sure about auto's) instead of the engine RPM.

They do have pto's that run off the engine my friend had a 97 ram tow truck with the set up it worked great. If you would like more info email me and i will ask him. he said it was the best way to go i cant remeber the resoning behind it but he says its the way to go.
