My truck is in KZ (says DC) or KZL (says dealer) since 2/20/04. Today my dealer told me there was an accident with railcars and now there is a shortage of railcars. They are still trying to figure out how to correct that. Therefor my truck is still in Mexico.

On the other hand DC customer service says it is not uncommon to take over two weeks for a truck to arrive in Laredo. That is when the railcar number gets assigned.

Anyone heard of a railcar shortage delaying shipments? And when do railcar numbers be assigned?

Thanks

Jon

Bad Memories

I ordered my '98 in December of 1997, and didn't get it until May 1998! There was a nationwide railcar shortage that left my new truck sitting in a railyard in St Louis for six weeks waiting for a railcar. I grew old waiting for that truck!

Is that what DC is saying of what's holding up your order? Ewwwwhhhh... thats a good one! :eek: :-laf :-laf

What's next? We ran out of people to drive the trains! :rolleyes:

(Ok sorry. . just venting I guess. I'm still waiting for mine and the website gives me very little to go by. The customer rep at DC really s**k and from the sound of it they are getting their info from the same website so I don't know why I even bother to call. )

I ordered mine October 10, 2003, and I'm still waiting too. They're telling me next week but they've been telling me that for nearly a month now.

:--) Oct 10 2003?!?!?!?! :--)

In that case I really can't complain! I don't know what I would have done in your position, but cancelling the order and buying one off the lot would have come to mind. :{

Get this the day I ordered the truck the dealer said it would take 4-6 weeks. He wanted me to give him my truck the day I ordered the new one so he could sell it before winter was over. What was I going to drive for 8 weeks. I hope to have my new truck before spring is over.

This is the first time I ORDERED a new truck. Is this how long it really takes or is DC having problems now?:confused:

if there are empty rail cars in canada on Canadian National Rail ground, they will not be moving real quick... the labour [machenists, carmen, electricians etc... ] are sitting on strike for now past 2 weeks. . with no one really qualified to be building the trains at our yards, things are slow... now that may not sound like it should effect the usa, but the yard i work out of on CN is the one of the bussiesest yard in north america for humping railcars and making trains... and the yard is full of railcars [lots of car carriers too], and they are not moving as fast as CN's press releases make it out to be...

There is always railcars setting for months at a time growing rust at Cairo IL. , I have heard the same in the desert out west, although I haven't been out west to see it personally in several years now. There was a train wreck in Kansas where the tracks washed out Friday but that does not account for all the rail cars in North America. Someone is blowing smoke.

As I recall, my 97 2500 took about 4 weeks. I think it came by rail from Saltillo, not by ship. Today's update on mine is March 19.

Yup, there is a railcar shortage. It is causing some delays in shipping of lumber and some steel items. Also is causing some major delays in shipping cargo containers, like ones filled with tires, wheels, toys, clothes, electronics. The tires and wheels affect us most as we build trailers and need tires and wheels for every darn one of them. . :)
