All the constant talk about bigger injectors and power boxes makes me say "ho hum". :(

In search of something different and new... I found the ultimate upgrade for us Northerners. For the low price..... almost equal to what we paid for our trucks... :--) we could have TRACKS!!! This upgrade would make any truck next to you quiver in its shoes at a traffic light. :D

I have seen these set up on a Hummer and a Ford F350 here in the Alaskan oil fields. They where used to do crew changes on remote geophysical sites. According to the guys driving the trucks the Hummer did real well with em, but the Ford had steering problems and broke tie rods all the time. Of course the guys driving them probably where real hard on em, I know when I worked geophysical work we where always saying "I wonder if we could drive up this hill" with our Nodwell tracked vechs...

The company that used them got rid of them in favor of a custom tucker snow cat (www.sno-cat.com/index.asp).

I visited the plant back around Easter of this year. My brother went up there to pick up a set of ATV tracks for a friend.

I rode in their abused demo truck through the rough country obstacle course. Really noisy and rough on the paved road leading to the course. In the rough stuff it was smoother than conventional tires as you don't bounce through every rut.

The same is true for tracked farm tractors. Smooth in the field, but rough on the roads.

My brother first saw these a couple years ago in a machine shop in Idaho. They were on a Yellowstone sno-van. The front hubs had worked the lug nuts loose and made a mess of things. (We discovered after the ride, their company demo truck also had loose lug nuts on both front hubs. )

Couple of local guys got tracks for their ATVs. I talked to one of them a couple weeks later to see how they like them. Noisy and dirty as they really fling the mud. Almost unstoppable, too.

the only down side is that your top speed should be reduce to around 40 mph on the road another thing is steering when at a stop steering is almost impossible unless you get a hydraulic ram assist.

but on the up side they would be excellent if you live in the mountains where it snows a lot.
