I suggest for guys with a h1c or hx35 turbo to go with a 3" downpipe to 4" back. Basically stick to the stock downpipe. A 4" downpipe would look good, but not necessary until you go with a 4" turbo, such as hx40 or one of the HTB2 line. Then it's time to build a 4" downpipe into your existing 4" system. Stomp has made over 600hp with a 4" exhaust system, nuff said.

I'd be interested, I've been wanting a 4" for a while. you say it has a 3. 5" downpipe? PM me on a price please and who makes them? are they a homemade jobbie or a mandrel bent unit?

easy 4" down pipe

Hey gang ,one way to have a 4" down pipe on a 1st gen is use the factory second gen elbow "94-96 i think, has the round clamp style fitting just as the stock down pipe has" (or if you have an exuaset brake). Then just buy a 4" down pipe from a 2nd gen kit. I was able to buy a slight used on from a friend who up graded to a hx40 for 40$. Then a 3ft piece of 4" flex by the tcase a little bailing wire and another 2ft piece of straight and then a mbrp muffler and a 4" 3d gen tail pipe a littel welding for the hangers and ha ya fairly cheep and fairly easy 4" pipe.

thanks

Roy

It is a mandrel bent kit from Pinnacle Power Exhaust and features a 3. 5 inch downpipe. Check out the Group Buy in the classifieds. Jeremy.

Well I recieved my exhaust today, I Love it!

I had the exhuast system in place in about a hour, i just need to finish hanging it :D Man I love the sound of my truck now :-laf

What's the chances of getting a couple pic's? By the way, I am glad you like it. If I can get you anything else just give me a shout! Jeremy.

Here are some pictures, It went together in about 2 hours,,,,,,1 to put it in place and 1 to hang it where I wanted it. There is plenty of room even around the transfercase. The only tight place is between the transmission and the frame ( this is due to the fact that the crew cab has a 1/2 thicker web on the frame.

I have bought pre made exhaust before for cars and trucks and they never fit as well as this did :D

thank you for the deal Jeremy

Good to see our group trying to line up a group buy... . :D... ... feel free to express interest in this but keep in mind that quoting prices is something that should not really happen.

Once you've decided you're interested then the next step would be to go behind the scene's and ask/get price info/details.

This will keep our registered sponsor's/vendor's from having concerns over "forum advertising and/or sales pitches. .

pb... .

edit... . you can get a 4" downpipe for our trucks including an adapter to go from 3" to 4" as well.

The shop that has handled and is still stocking this material is PDR.

You are free to contact them about the parts/costs/etc via email or phone.

When using the 4" downpipe you'll need to do some blunt force tuning to the downpipe were it passes close to the fram rail... in addition the automatic equiped trucks will need to tweak/shift the auto dipstick tube a bit as well.

Ah lil skinny t-case piece, isn't it cute:-laf... What no factory style turnout for the tailpipe? I would prefer the bend straight out so as to smoke the ricers at stoplights when I turn left:-laf:-laf... bigexhaust.com is looking better and better :-X

Yes, Bill. we get it. You're happy with your Big Exhaust. Mike appears happy with his purchase, and I appreciate him posting pics of it. I was wondering myself what it looked like. Think I may get one in a little while, especially for the price difference.

To answer the burning question I ( and I'm sure others) had, I called and talked to someone (he didnt say his name and I didnt ask). Said it WILL accomodate a W-G housing, and there is no heat shield, due to the angle of the bend, it doesnt get near enough to the heater box to be an issue.

MTownsend, I am glad you love your kit and I appreciate the pictures! Thanks again, Jeremy.

Everyone else,

If this kit isn't quite what you are looking for give me a call and I can see if we can bend you up what you want!

i'll be interested,on my 90 no intercooler i don't think theres room between t-case and cross member. now its factory squesed to about 3 inches. i just seen the pitchers i think it will work let me know

exhaust metallurgy ???

I would certainly be interested in a system for a few of my trucks. 4" is a bit large but it will do I guess. . The only concern I would have is the metallurgy the pipe is being made out of. .

The stock pipe is made out of a special alloy designed to withstand extreme heat and corrosion... I can't recall the actual name of the alloy. So lets just say it is a kind of super stainless steel... . Just try cutting it with a torch. . It does not cut very well at all !

Most of the trucks I have seen in the south western states the past few years still have their stock exhaust systems on them. The trucks in the rust belt up north have had some rust out problems . But the head pipes have still been intact...

I like things that last ! A new 4" system would be great if it were made out on pipe that is as least as good as the stock system. . If not I would not be real crazy about doing all that work then have it rust off in a few years...

My other concern would be the heat shields on the head pipe. . I want them to be there! I really do not want to melt my heater/AC box! I am not so sure that there will be any room for them if the system is 4" I am thinking that 3. 5" might be a better plan for clearance issues...

Plain mild steel pipe elbows and angels can be bought cheap at any heavy duty truck parts store. . It can be cut and miged together just fine. The only problem is that it rusts out rather quickly up in the rust belt. . Alum. coating the pipe help but is not as good as using the correct alloy in the first place.

So what's the pipe made out of? Are the heat shields on the head pipe? How close does it come to the heater box?? Is it as good as or will it last as long as the stock system did?

Thanks... ///Terry

Downpipe Metallurgy... ... ... ... .

Very interesting point Mysteryman! I just finished sectioning 1 1/4" from my downpipe to go from a 16cm non w/g housing to a 12cm wastegated housing. It most definitely appears to be made of some alloy of stainless or possibly monel metal, as it showed no signs of rust or oxidation, and did not weld like mild steel at all. Oh and by the by, at the same time I yanked my 4" exhaust and went back to the stock 3" system. Would much rather listen to the cummins/holset symphony than the big exhaust drone. Just me. To each his own.

I simply removed the heat shield from my OEM down pipe and tack welded onto the new four inch. There is still a large space between the shield and the insulation on the evaporator box. I have an HX turbo w/non gated turbine housing.

I could be wrong, but won't the larger volume of a 4" dp make for faster expansion of hot gasses, cooler dp temperatures, and thus no need for a heat shield?
