Ok guys...help me out

"U.P.C." diesel gas?

My brother-in-law just bought a fishing boat with MAN diesels in it. They are 800hp V-8s... I know that MAN builds heavy trucks and motors, and is a large German company but thats all I know... can anyone give me some details? Thanks.

I've heard of them. Theyre big in large... . ah... . VERY LARGE diesel main propulsion power for ships etc. Your bro in laws engine is probibally the smallest they make. :-laf

If you look in Maritime Reporter you'll see a lot of their ads.

PS you can get M P for free, however I let my subscription lapse, so I have no contact info for you. Sorry.

a little....

I was in a Pershing nuke unit in Germany and we had M. A. N. trucks for missle pullers and wreckers. I got to run one of the wreckers. They had V-10s in them and ran pretty good. I worked on them some but was mainly light maintenence,so I can't tell you a whole lot about how they work. Besides that was 15 yrs. ago and I drank a whole lot of German beer while I was over there;) . I think M. A. N. stands for Machinfabrique-Augsberg-Nurenberg. Sorry I guess I wasn't much help. Doug

Hey south Florida! I lived in Boca for 18 years.

I have extensive marine diesel experience, although have never owned MAN diesels myself. They are generally lighter weight and more maintenance than CAT or Detroit DDEC's. Somehow, I think MAN may be a division of Mercedes-Benz. A friend had a 60 ft Hatteras with MAN's but trades out every year, so it is hard to say what the long term performance would be. At least he will go fast while they last.

Hi BCFAST.

What kind of info do you need?

I frequently deal with their stationary powerplant dept,

they're really good guys.

Anything I can get you, let me know.
