Looking into purchasing a new buckstop, but wanted to make sure there wasn't something better. Also will take any comments on the CAN-BACK camper shells.

I've got front and rear Buckstop's and have been very pleased with them.

There's some pics in my "reader's rigs" section.

Buckstop

Here's a picture of my Buckstop... ... ... ... . I've since added a set of Hellas. I was fortunate to pick mine up used from this site.

here is the buckstop i had on my old dodge, i can vouch for it's toughness, i hit a buick doing 35 and had 2 scratches on my bumper, her car was a total loss

I've ran my Buckstop for a year now and had no problems. I think it looks good and I have had no problems with rust or craftsmanship. I was worried about paint chipping with having it painted the same color as my truck (sport) but it has done great against the bugs. Fortunately I haven't had to test it's crashworthiness. I like the look of the roadarmor bumpers especially on the 3rd gens but I think they are a little more spendy.

Has anyone out there considered having the Buckstop Line-X'd?

I'm wondering if the dimensional changes due to the coating would cause problems.

Rear Bumber

I purchased a "rear BuckStop" for my truck after I "accidentally???" backed into a rock off a dirt road while turning around. It was near dark and with a shell cap, I couldn't see back that well with stock backup lights.

I went to Dodge to replace the stock bumper, (boy, was I stupid) whole price was over $800... ... and I would still have the same weak factory bumper.

I found BuckStop on the web and called them. Best thing I did. Ordered a bumper with lights in the bumper. Now I do not have any trouble "seeing back" when backing up, AND the new bumper looks great. Even the dealer has asked about obtaining one for a "custom" that they were going to build.

Best part is that it was much cheaper than the factory cost.

And BuckStop put a "gusset" inside the right side to support an outboard upright post that I install an exterior vise on... to enable "holding long guns" for cleaning. It works fantastic and gives you the strength of the truck to hold the weapon. Wish I made the move sooner!

Now saving for a "front bumper"... .....

Great Bumper Except

i LOVE MINE - BUT THEY DO RUST! They get attacked by rocks and I have the front trailer hitch and she'ls shows signs of rusting where the hitch was attached... ... ... Will have to keep after them with paint.

I have a front Buckstop. I love it. And Dorian will work with you if you want something custom done. He went above and beyond to make me happy.

The powdercoating they come with holds up great. I hit a wood parking post and all I had to do was clean the brown paint off the bumper from the post. The post was destroyed. Though my hitch reciever has some surface rust inside, but anything made of steel will do that.

You know, if the BuckStop center hoop had been a little wider to match the vertical columns with the chrome verticals on the grille, it would look like it was made for it... .

For months I have been thinking about/planning a set of road armor bumpers that I would have line-x'ed... just haven't pulled the trigger yet because I'm not 100% sure I like how those huge front bumpers look, nor am I sure I want to effectively ruin any chances of fitting my truck into a 'normal' garage. It sure would look nice and match though, considering I have line-x on my truck bed and had my aux tank/toolbox sprayed as well. Without question though, before one of these big bumpers went on my truck it would go to line-x, especially considering all the bad reports we've heard regarding roadarmor and various other brands that have questionable paint/powdercoating quality. I can't see any dimensional changes the coating might cause - what were you concerned about?

Well, I mean the Line-X has a certain thickness to it, so that will change the dimensions of the bumper by that thickness. It's maybe 1/8" or 1/16" thick... is that enough to make it difficult/impossible to mount the bumper?

I've got a Can-Back Cap, I love it. It's light, and can be remove or installed by one person, only weighs about 75 pounds I think. You can see a pic of it Here
