I have a friend who wants to know what the filtration capabilities are on the new fuel filters that will be on the 2008 low sulphur trucks?

He was thinking it is about 3 microns? He asked the dealer and they wanted the 3rd degree from him, name, rank, serial number, and what business did he have wanting to know that kind of stuff anyway?

His concern is he is making 85% bio-fuel as a business and needs to be sure that he is selling a product that meets the new regs.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Hi John:

I don't know for 2008, but the 2007 with the 6. 7L I believe is 7 micron. FWIW, Cummins allows running B20 if you install an additional fuel filter, with water separater. I can't find one yet other than going with FASS and bypassing the lift pump. Otherwise, as stock, the most is B5.

Glacier sells a filter and seperator kit that you can mount where ever you can find the room.

No interest in the company. Just a satisfied customer.

I asked and he said he didn't have one for the new 6. 7L yet, but was going to develop one. He is ordering/buying the new truck as well.

Please send/post a link of the unit you are referring to. Maybe it will work anyway.

Thanks,

Brad

I looked at that Glacier unit. Pretty neat. I like having the filter where you can get to it easy, not like the one on our trucks. ***** to change that when the truck is hot and you just picked up a load of bad fuel.

It'll work! I installed the Glacier 20 micron filter/water seperator and 2 micron filter and it am pretty happy with this set-up.

You just need the right fittings from your existing fuel lines to the filter head and you're good to go. Those filters will handle whatever fuel load you want to put through them.

I don't know where the boost pump is on the 6. 7 but I wouldn't have it after the filters (if your going with Glacier). Sucking fuel through those two filters would probably kill the LP.

There is a concern from Dodge that the lift pump will not be able to push the fuel through the filters. The lift pump is in the fuel tank. Could I install a pump between the LP and the filter or would the LP be a restriction on the volume of fuel to the pump and burn it out?

I should probably start another thread on this as we are a little off-topic for this thread. I'll wait until Richard at Glacier has a system for the new engine.

Brad

Brad, no need to start a new thread. This is all in the topic range of what I was wanting to know anyway. I would prefer to keep it all in one place and not have to be searching around for the info.

I see that I am going to be talking to Glacier though as I also want to start running veggie oil in my truck. I have run a few tank fulls in the past but nothing consistant, and now with the new ULSD, I am concerned that the VP will not get enough lubrication??
