Anyone know what size the 4 bolts that hold the AFC housing down are?? Length, thread pitch?? Just want to be able to quickly tune my cal plate without screwing with that temp break-off screw that I still have on there. When I did my Banks kit, it came with another break-off screw but I didn't tighten it down to the point it would break off since I knew I was going to be getting in there again soon. So, if anyone has those sizes, I think all 4 are the same size, that would be great. I hope the hardware store has the right size bolts... .

I do believe they are metric - I just can't remember what size right now. I replaced mine with stainless steel socket head cap screws. I'll try to look for the size.

metric, m6*1. 0*25mm times 2 and the lowers are about 35mm?

Use you 8mm socket on the lower ones.

Some better hardware stores have some slick button head bolts with a 4mm hex in the center. Use it where your breakoff bolt was. . no need to remove the air horn! :)

The two screws inside the housing (attaching afc to pump) are also m6*1. 0 x20-25mm?

Good luck

Andy

Ok, just to be sure.....

So, I take it the bolts ARE metric like the last two post stated right?? Not 1/4" 28. I thought they would be metric since just about everything else is metric on these trucks. I guess I could buy some 14" 28 bolts and some 6Mx1. 0 The lengths I can figure out easy but I just wanted to verify the bolt thread pitch.

Andy is right on with the sizes. I used socket head cap screws and changed all of them, including the ones covering the lever arm adjustment so I could use one size allen wrench for all of the screws. A long allen wrench allows me to get to the "breakoff" screw without messing with the lines.

Got 'em

Cool, well, I went ahead and pulled out the break-off screw to check the threads and they are M6 x 1. 0. Just one other question, I can't remember if they are all the same length, the ones I got are 20mm long, is that long enough for the two that hold the solenoid bracket to the AFC housing?? The break-off screw was just under 20mm like about 18-19mm.

sorry about that mine where not the original bolts. the person that owned the truck before me put different ones in. mine where a 10mm bolt head size and a 1/4 28 thread count or so that is what the auto store told me the thread count was.

Thats weird, did they put different threads in certain injection pumps for the earlier '90s models?? Obviously I found out mine were metric, but how are yours the standard thread pitch of 1/4" 28???

Someone buggered it with 1/4" bolts. Stock are M6 x 1. 0 thread. Top ones are 16 mm long (18 will work, but 20 is too long). Bottom ones are 25 mm long. Torque plate bolts are 12 mm long.

not real sure what the other person did but after reading this thread i went to the hardware store and bought and installed the ones that andy said were the right ones.

Maybe chase the threads w a tap. If you were to grease it well and clean it frequently, you shouldn't drop "fod" in the pump.

Thanks chiming in Joe. I have some ziplocks of them, but hadn't measured them in a while, just grabbed the right size visually!

Sickly must keep eating and his owner finds more parts to feed his thirst for # 2! How many times has his AFC been on and off? :)

To be a bit more verbose, I staked a KDP yesterday. The owner had just "downgraded" to a 97 3500 with a huge slide in camper from a FL 60, Freightliner and 40+ft fiver. He had a F. liner dealer in MN/St. Paul change the shut off solenoid on his 6CTA 8. 3 P-Pump, they used incorrect fasteners that caused the pump (gov. housing to crack and leak oil). After a round and round they finally installed a reman pump under "warranty. " So proper fastener makes the job easy and done right for trouble free miles.

Good luck

Andy
