Hello all, Adam Macomber here.
Our first sold order (Mel Swanson, see Dance with the dealers thread) with the 6. 7L and the new 68RFE was ordered 1/15 and as I am typing now in on a train car in Nampa, ID making it's gruelingly slow journey across country from Saltillo, Mexico. It was loaded on the train on the 11th and with any luck will hit Spokane, WA on the 26th.
Many things can affect delivery times, and you can take your "salesman's" words with a grain of salt. I do not currently know of any "inspection" that would hold up a 6. 7 unless the specific truck had quality issues and went for a quality audit. (very rare)
The main thing that holds up orders, and it makes it very tricky to quote delivery times, and your salesman may not know it or doesn't want to admit it, is that every dealership has an allocation of each vehicle. The allocation is based on many factors such as the store's historic sales, how many other of the same vehicle they have on order before yours, a little vodoo magic, and if your store is in good graces with Detroit.
The best thing you can probably do to hurry your truck along is to send as many buyers to the store you ordered your truck from and have them buy trucks off the lot to free up some allocation for your truck to be shipped.
Hope this helps clear up a little of the fog. And I hope you get to see your truck real soon... you are going to be blown away by the integration of the automatic with the 6. 7 and the exhaust brake. The fact that the turbo kicks in at a much lower RPM is pretty cool too.
One last thing, you cannot have an ESD without a VIN, the factory doesn't so that.
