Anyone know where this came from?

Driving along this morning and all of a sudden the fan blower starts rattling.



Got home and pulled the motor and found this sitting in the fan.

Anybody have a clue where it came from?

It looks like the turbine like center piece on the front (radiator) side of the fan. You can't really see it, but I felt mine and pretty sure that is where it came from. Not an engineer so don't really know what its for, mabye balancing, air distribution, etc.

If it's correct then it means I'm missing a piece. Least it's not rattling anymore. Next time I'm over near the dealer I'll run it by them to see what they think and to get it on record while the truck's still under warranty.

06 blend door removal

Whats the easiest way to replace the blend door on the HVAC system?? Mines making the gringing noise.

It`s not necessarily the door. It could just be the actuator.

Either way, does the dash have to be removed? Or can this be fixed without removing the dash?

It is the door itself thats busted. Look up through the blower hole and you'll see exactly where it came from. You can replace just the door but you'll have to buy the entire box, actuator and door assemby ($26).

After you get the new part you can surgically remove it's door by cutting the box it's mounted in. Then, remove the glove box and unscrew the screws that hold in the actuator motor. Leave the blower motro out so you can get your hand up there. (look at the new part to see how it comes apart). Then simply install the new door into the old housing. Doing it this way you only have to remove the blower motor and the glove box, takes about two hours.

Or you can take the whole dash apart and replace the entire assembly with the one you purchased.

You may wunder how I know all this. I had a leaf in my duct and I stupidly reached up and pulled on the door through the blower motor opening. It broke rite off and well, you know the rest. . :{

BTW, being an 06 you already have the updated box so you wont gain anything by taking apart the whole dash.

If you trust your dealer then I'd let him fix it.
