Anyone lost their exhaust yet?

Hi to all,



I was wondering if anyone's exhaust system has mysteriously disappeared with a straight pipe replacing it? If so, how do these beasts sound? I am just curious!!

I was wondering the same thing about 03 exhaust notes. I'd be interested in an 03 if they still sound like a big rig truck with a straight pipe... (among other things). In fact, I'm starting to admire the quietness of the 03's, quietness in the cab that is. I'd still like outsiders to hear the turbo and 6cyls of diesel power.



I'm betting it sounds just like a 24V exhaust, minus the injector noise, which makes the 24V so loud anyways.

I,ve gotten so used to the quiet that I'm afraid to straight pipe it. Must be getting old . Diesel Dynamics has some audio clips on their web site of '03s with 4" and 5" exhausts.

I haven't lost the muffler yet but I did just get rid of the Turbo silencer ring and the baffle in the plastic straight pipe on the filtered air intake. Now it sounds MUCH better and screams like an F-14 taking off

How and where is the Turbo silencer ring?

Is there any warranty issues with pulling these items?

The ring is on the inlet side of the turbo as soon as you remove the rubber intake ducting. It is that bright shiney disc that is directly in front of the intake area of the turbo blades. It is a large snap ring that using 2 screwdrivers can be pryed free and removed. There is no warranty issue as it does not change anything on the vehicle except for the turbine scream level



If you want to go 1 step farther then remove the large plastic "pipe" section on the intake plumbing between the air filter box and the turbine inlet. Remove the hoses and you will see on the inside of the pipe a plastic cross section that you can remove only with a hacksaw and is not "fixable" as in there is no way to undo it. The inside cross sections have small holes in the plastic to reduce noise from the turbine.

I heard a straight pipe on an '03 sport truck today. It really does have a good sound to it, though I relish the celebration of not having to kill my engine at the bank or Burger King windows!



Funny thing is that he said his had a smaller pipe going into the muffler, which the muffler guy said had a lot of restriction to it. He then glanced under mine and agreed as I told him mine was a straight flow all the way back, which it is.



Anyone know why they evedently choked on back, but not others at the factory? We're both automatics, by the way...

maybe engineers are trying to create a venturi effect to boost power ? [:-laf]
