I'm considering modding my airbox by cutting a hole in bottom and using a Cold Air mod I won at May Madness a couple of years ago. Anyone cut their airboxes for more airflow?
I am running a gutted air intake tube, a 4" hole cut in the bottom of the stock air box and an aFe drop in filter. This was good for 1 to 1. 5 MPG and more throttle response. The plan was to rig up a ram air system from the front of the truck but I now think that I want to go with a hood ram air system. I'll probably install an SRT10 hood or a Rumble Bee style scoop and a tube to the air box.
I mod'd my airbox too. Cut a 4" hole in the bottom and used a PSM(?) air tube running down to just behind the bumper. Can't vouch for better mileage, but it can't hurt... .
I had a S&B CAI (for sale now) and the EB defiantly felt stronger. And of course you get more whistle (not bad) and growl. Did not get any mpg gain and a tad better throttle response.
I had an AEM CAI on my truck. Saw no difference (other a minor increase in turbo spin up sound) except for grief from the dealer. Back to stock and perfectly happy!
AirAid MPX w/cold air snorkel. Seems to have added a couple of mpg at highway speeds, but hard to tell, as was added when I was starting a 5000 miles trip in early 2009, and the truck was really geting broken in.
Hey Cumminz, can't wait to see how the 5" pans out. Do you track yer fuel mileage? Do you have a grand kid that will post the audio file somewhere, once you get it done?
You can go to a plumbing supply and get a fitting that your pot set on. You can cut out the bottom and bolt it on the botton get a flex hose that will fit it run it down jest above the bumper put screan door screan over the end good to go. Help to keep my EGT down in a longe hard pull in the mountains. === Good Luck
Hey Ronnie!!!..... I too won a "cool pipe at MM'10... haven't installed it yet,if the weather calms down enough i will though..... i'll let you know how i make out... . very nice package BTW..... tom
Clear the code a time or two while the computer learns the new parameters. Then all should be good. Watch for dust leakage at the corners of these drop in filters. There have been problems with them not sealing to the air box top at the corners. Putting a thin layer of oil on the filters flange helps as does taking care in placing the filter in the opening.
