Was at Dave Smith Motors (reported to be the world's largest Dodge truck dealer) in Kellogg, Idaho yesterday and was told that they are no longer taking orders for 2003 models. So,I could not get my exact model unless I wanted one from another dealer's inventory. The sales lady showed me the list of all 2003 vehicles (trucks and cars) the dealership will be receiving from Daimler/Chrysler for the remainder of this year and there must have been two thousand vehicles on the list. There were about 20 vehicles on each page and about 100 pages. I will purchase my first Diesel, a Ram 2500, reg cab, long bed, HO Cummins/48RE, 4X4, Laramie. I want a 2003 model because of the $2500 rebate. Some of the 2004 cars which are now arriving have the same rebates applying which apply to the 2003 models. It is not known if these same rebates will apply to the early model 2004 trucks. So, I will get either a late model 2003 or an early model 2004. But, I will get the truck I want and not compromise on power, trans, or accessories. Color is not that important as long as it is silver. I will not purchase a vehicle traded from another dealer.
The Dave Smith dealership is taking orders for 2004 models which should be on their lot in Kellogg about late August or early September. Because of the size of their dealership they probably receive some priority for early delivery of new vehicles. The fact that Kellogg, ID is closer to the Ram assembly plant than Casey, Nick and our other friends up north, we in the States will probably see the new vehicles as Nick said, about a month or so before they do.
Nobody yet seems to know what differences, if any will appear in the 2004 Rams. We have all read about the new smog control device Cummins is installing on their engines on January 1, 2004 (in spite of the early jitters about this device, EGR?, I have to believe Cummins has their ducks in order and this device will work just fine. We all got to believe clean air is more gooder than dirty air, right?) However, not much more rumor than that is floating around out there. I did see and drive a late model 2003 Laramie which had the 6 disc CD changer integrated into the dash. The sales lady told me the late model 2003 Laramies are now arriving with the 6 disc CD changer as part of the package. She assumed that this CD changer would be a part of the standard Laramie package in 2004. I will speculate that guys on this TDR site will soon have more info about the 2004 models. And, they will have it before most dealers.
Best Wishes,
