Seriously looking at buying a used 2000-2004 double cab 4x4 Tacoma.

A cattle ranch that I helped with throughout the years uses Toyota 4x4's for general running around. They get beat to snot and keep going.

Any thoughts?

I hear nothing but good things about Toyota Tacoma and better yet about Toyota Tundra.

My son has had three Tacoma's and now a Tundra, which he uses in his construction business, along with his 04. 5 Dodge 3500 Cummins with an NV5600.

Ive personally owned 2 toyota pickups with over 300k. You cant beat the reliability of them. The engines run forever and i never had any issues with the standard trannys or the rear diffs. The front ends hold together forever, too. My wifes 4runner had 240k on original balljoints when it was totaled out in an accident. They were all I owned until i began to have the need to haul/tow heavy. If i were to ever go back to a gasser, yota all the way.

Thanks. I just want a little run around truck for small stuff and hunting rig. Town is 1/2 hour from my house so it does hurt a little for me to drive all that way for $1. 25 parts.

My 2500 is staying here with me but more than likely it'll get replaced with a 2013 3500 DRW next year.

I had an '04 that wouldn't die. I beat the crap out of it, and the only thing that broke were the front struts. The lower link would break off and i'd have to pull over somewhere on solid ground and jack it up, get one out of the toolbox, and put it on..... I had 33x10. 50x15s on it, and they'd rub occasionally when I got to really bashing on her hard... ... I never had a door hinge, rear spring, transmission, or engine problem from 32k to 109k. I sold it to a kid who has had no problems with it, other than some wiring issues, which I think he had the trailer lights wired up by some "yahoo" shop over in Denton..... Anyway, I didn't like the fact I couldn't pull a gooseneck with it,, and I was getting scared of it, I'd beat it up so bad, so I ended up selling it. It's lucky to have survived around here that long. I hunted with it every year, and drove it in the summer to check water lines on my ranches. But it'd get 21-24 hwy, and 15-18city. I've considered buying another one, if I found one that was lower mileage and not beat up..... That one replaced my '84 W-150 basher I ran water lines with. I can't say enough good about it. It got airborne an average of once a day, I bet!!:eek: The back seat had more room than a full size '03-09 Ram!!! :mad: It killed almost as many hogs in a year as my AR!! They'd run out in front of me and I didn't swerve... ... Man, I miss that truck, talking about it!!! :{

You won't have to remind me to never buy a used truck from you.

I told the kid he didn't want it!! :-laf What's bad is I told his parents I'd stand by the engine and drivetrain, but it's still not broken down other than the wiring issues he's had. I was kinda gettin' scared of it, but now I wonder why I sold it... . :confused: I kinda gave it away, knowing how hard I'd beat on it..... and it was fully deducted... . :D

Funny thing is, I can sell just about any of the ones in my yard as they are. I'm not gonna lie to anyone about what they are, and that reputation gets around, I guess... ... I don't bash on all of them like that. I usually keep one just for that, to keep it out of my system and not tear up my work trucks. My bashers usually get wrecked or destroyed and parted out..... The '95 5/8 ton I had got sold after I put 8 lugs, 6 inches of lift, a camshaft, and 40" boggers on it... ... and I bashed on it for two years..... another fine truck I sold for no good reason... ... other than to get the Toy. Mileage was a lot better, and it had 4 doors, though..... :cool: Current basher is an '01 2500 4x4 reg cab, with 360 V-8... and aluminum Edelbrock cylinder heads... . and a "mediocre" camshaft... ... and headers..... and 35" Mickey Thompson's... for now..... :D
