I aint much into handloading but I have found that it is very accurate with the cheapo 300grain Winchester hollow points and for hunting the 300grain Winchester partition gold's shoot almost as well and the 405grain Remingtions are just fun Oo.
but for Father's Day, I did get a replica Hartford Model 1892 brass-framed saddle carbine chambered in . 45 Colt..... I like it, but will probably have to take up reloading to keep it fed.
I got the last one in this area that was SS and Ported. I'm told they aren't going to make the ported anymore -I guesss they were to loud! I love the gun and keep her in my truck all the time - I use it as a "go-to" gun - along with others that are easier to get to, but if I ever need to shoot through something, I have the right gun handy.
I've got an 1894s in . 41 mag. I thought it would go well with my . 41 redhawk, . 41 Tracker, . 41 S&W 57 and the pair of S&W 58s (. 41 mag millitary & police). So far that's my only rifle. I might consider a . 22 and a 45-70 at sometime.
We have a 1867 Win. 44/40 of my grandfathers in the family it is a treasure that we would not part with. Just enjoy having it and thinking of all the deer grandpa killed with it. Those old rifles are awsome.
I know you asked for handloading info but for those of us who don't... . I tried some BB's in my Marlin and loved'em They really pack a wallop, not for shooting off the bench. Expensive as heck but I had to check them out for fun. I'm gonna try some Garret Hammerheads next just for giggles. Then it'll be time to fire up a reloading press.
