i nned to get a set of steelies for the winter with good winter tires and can't find , or pay the ransome that a set of the slightly wider 2000 wheels cost , can find 99 wheels for good money , will they fit and work properly ???
I don't know why they wouldn't work. I know it doesn't work the other way without mods, but I see no reason why you couldn't go to a little narrower wheel without any problems.
I have my snow tires on a set of the older chrome steel wheels mounted on my 2001. 5 2500. They do sit out a inch or two further than the mag wheels. Actually I would like to trade the chrome steel wheels for another set of the mags, it someone in the Seattle area has a set. SNOKING
The chrome steel wheels have 4. 75" of backspacing and the new alloy wheels have almost 6" of backspacing.
The older painted steel wheels are 6. 5" wide and I am almost positive they have the same backspacing as the chrome wheels. As I understand the newer painted steel wheels are 7. 5" wide and have a backspacing of 5. 5"
