Anyone put a diesel in a 97 or newer jeep wrangler ?

I have a 2000 jeep wrangler that i would like to swap a 4bt cummins in to along with a 5 speed transmission.



I only have a few more payments till it's paid off then the fun is going to begin

I was going to put a Mercedes 200D engine in a CJ-2A flat fender Willys years ago, but never did. I think it would be nice. I think a Cummins would be mighty heavy for a Jeep though.

Whell i am know commited to this swap i have a brand new cummins 4bt with all wiring on the way to me





I am not to worried about the weight i am running dana 60's front and rear and 37" tires i will probably have a new set of coil springs made up for the front end to help compensate for the weight difference.

i'd love to build up a little jeep tj [as it's called in canada]



but i am undecided as to what to use for an engine. i'd love to put a 3. 9 B cummins in it, but a 4-53t green grenade would be fantastic i think. a little smaller than the cummins, but those detroit's can make some power, and it'd be different for sure. . [daimler chrysler now owns detroit diesel, so it'd be a "offical" daimler chrysler engine :-laf ]

i wish. i don't have the time, space or the money to do something like that now. if i could get the space to do something like this, then i could make the time and money work. i work 6 days a week so my weeks are pretty long

I have been thinking about a Cherokee 2WD project. What is the most power anyone has gotten out of a 4bt. Would I be way off thinking I could get 300 to 400ish hp/600 to 800ish tq. I have been trying to research old threads, but have found nothing on mods for power. Also I want to do an automatic. This will be a toy for the drag strip. Thanks for any input. Ken
