Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Anyone put BD BOV (blow off valve) in a 2nd gen AUTO transmission to control turbo "bark" ?

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission New Flat Bed Installed!!

I am about to have my KSB1-B rebuilt as a hybrid HTB2 12/62. I have been watching the BD BOV with some interest. They now control it with the APPS (ie no micro switches on the go pedal) and it seems to be fairly adjustable to fit your way of driving.

I am wondering if anyone has actually installed the BD BOV (blow off valve) in the pre input manifold piping to control turbo "bark" and did it really function as advertised?

It is fairly pricey, but if it really does control the compressor back pressure when the turbine suddenly looses exhaust flow (like when the auto transmission shifts from 3rd to OD) and the intake system is overpressurized relative to turbine spool, it could be worth it in the long run.

Any one installed the BD BOV in a 2nd gen AUTO?

OK, I went and read every thread on BOV's. 1 or 2 members that had the BD BOV and auto transmission's responded in all the threads. I am trying to consolidate and focus the information so we will not have to go read about 30 different threads.

In your thread (the bark stops here) one member stated his BD dealer will not use the BD BOV in the future (sometimes sticks open, does not cover every sudden throttle lift). Also somewhere in the myrid of threads there are comments that the automatic transmission shift from 3rd to OD can not be protected because the TPS is not at idle or close to an idle position as the circuitry is primarily a go to idle voltage on the TPS (although somewhat setable with the advanced electronics (time delays, time of open BOV, etc) BD BOV) .

The only CONSISTENT concept is to get a turbine shaft that will take the abuse and then try not to abuse it (ie phat shafts etc).

AND maybe the only way to control it is to manage the go pedal better, and manage the 3rd to OD shift by locking OD out until the resultant rpm drop is high enough to keep the turbine spinning before allowing the shift to happen.

Just looking for more information to make an informed decision to install the BD BOV or not and what it would do for me.

Another consistent concept was the bark is more consistent with bigger turbos. Maybe down sizing to a smaller turbo might play an important role.

I have the blow off valve ,its prime use is under extreme boost, and you let off throttle suddenly that you won't damage Turbo from over spooling. The Spool valve can stick and mine has. Used anti seize and its been fine. Bought mine used.

Why is it that both of my buddy's trucks (12 valvers and autos) have turbo bark, but I've never had to worry about it? Is it because mine truck is a manual or because it is the newer style (HY?35 turbo)??
