Question on plugs in the bottom of the doors?

Hello all

I have a 96 that seems to have enough room on the outside of the speedo and tach to install the egt/boost guages, if you cut into the black plastic guage surround. Figure it cant cost too much to give it a try. Would not go into the stock guage "cover window", but would be out a bit.

Anyone done this?

If not, I will post results, good or bad.

gauges in dash

ZEEEW,

If you are bent on doing that, that fine, but, I recently had three gauges installed in a pod on the dash just about in the middle.

I'm not equipped to take photos and show them on the computor, but this is a real nice setup.

I had them installed at Advance Diesel Technology and Andy (proprietor) really likes them alot. If you wanted to check with him here is the link www.smokindiesel.com

He is also a TDR meber and you can send him a PM

ZEEEW,

I put my gauge in the hole where the OD lock out switch is on an auto. Is there anything in that hole in your dash? If it's just a switch it would be easier to move it than install the gauge in the instrument cluster.

Eric, my used 97' had EGT and boost installed where the ashtray is. For me, it was not a good place to be looking when it's time to be doing so. I put them on the A piller along with a post EGT guage. I also have a dash pod by the way. For what it's worth, I did not want to hack up the dash. The entire dash "rolls" back to work underneath. I put a notch in the front for my wires but it is hard to work with. When I have time, I am just going to drill about a 1" hole under the pod.

gauges in dash

I took ouy the center vents out found a piece of dash plastic at car toys glue it in and have 3 gauges in place looks great

Joe G. – Do you have pictures?

I will receive the last of my three gauges next week. :) I haven’t decided where to put them yet.

Right now, two of them are hanging from strings. Multiple visual angles but could look cleaner. :D :D

Wayne,

Here is a pic of my dash taken some time ago. I have a couple more lights on the switch panel now. The plastic is a crinkly texture so there is a reflection from the flash. The button on the bottom left is the OD lock out button. I have a Geno's garage Cup Smoothy on my center console. Works a lot better than the stock cup spiller. The trailer brake control is in where the ash tray was.

Eric Wagner,

Did you put three gauges in place of the center vents on the 2001 truck? I have been looking at this too, but thought it would limit my HVAC's ability to cool/heat my regular cab truck. Any info and/or pics would be great!

Thanks

Looks great. It gives me some ideas. How much trouble is it to get to that part of the dash to remove the OD button?

Wayne,

It's pretty easy. The black trim (bezel) is just clipped on. You can remove it with your fingers, be careful so you don't break any clips. It's been a while but I think that once the bezel is off you can get at the screws the hold the button and mount. If you look at your wireing diagram for the button you will seen that there are two circuits, one for the button push and one for the light. The button is just a push to make and open when released. About as complicated as a door bell button. The computer keeps track of the state of the OD lockout and changes it when it gets a push signal. So any cheap button will work. The light is just a 12 volt light. The gauge from Geno's included a piece of black plastic for the hole. I dunno if they still include it with the gauge.

Almost forgot. The lighter and power outlet have connectors that you have to disconnect when the bezel is loose to finish removing it.
