PowerWagon,

I'm inclined to agree with you. Perhaps I should read "the book" to find out what is so sinister. I sure don't want any big corporation getting away with abusing the system, or breaking the law. But I don't believe in attacking them just because they're "big" either. Free enterprise has room for businesses of all sizes.

I don't understand the comment that big companies like WM are "against individualism". When I see minorities, college students, single parents and senior citizens working jobs at places like this, I figure a legitimate need is being met.

I have an 80 year old uncle who works part time at Lowes in the midwest to supplement his Social Security income, and he's having a ball. I don't hear him whining about not feeling like an individual, or complaining that he's not making enough money, or that he's not in a union.

I know another "retired" senior citizen in Longmont who works part time at the mom and pop lumber yard in town that survived the Home Depot onslaught too, so don't tell me the jobs went away. What happend is the little guy adapted and succeeded. So MORE jobs were created and I now have TWO good stores to choose from.

I'm sure it was hard on somebody along the way - change usually hurts. Resisting change hurts too, it just takes longer...

It seems like she was not a member of the Wal-Mart family. You would think Wal-Mart could of just look the other way. You know I have been involved a few benefits around my home town and have been to a few others and come to think about it I have never seen anything being donated by Wal-Mart.

Great article, WadePatton. I knew it was bad, but those facts about how much chinese that monster imports are SICKENING!

BUY AMERICAN... . BOYCOTT WAL-MART!!!!

One rumor I heard was Wal-Mart purchases more clothing than anyone made from foreign labor. Wasn't there a story on the news a year or two ago about them buying from known sweat shops in Asia? Another thing I heard was Wal-Mart is more aggressive than anyone at purchasing in bulk and getting lower prices from their suppliers than anyone else. To the point of being quite unethical. And then it sounds like they are slow to pay.

I don't know if Wal-Mart is a K-Mart killer. K-Mart has/had issues that were running it under regardless of Wal-Mart, they just made it happen faster.

We've had Wal-Mart here in Tri-Cities for about 4 years and the smaller businesses seem to be hanging on. But what started as 1 store soon turned into an even bigger store then another one opened up and then a supercenter distribution a few miles up the road and then another in Walla Walla (the real "Wally World" in these parts :) )

I think it's good American capitalism almost run amok. An entity that's climbed to the top by stepping on others along the way. The thing that turns me off the most is their sappy happy little ads on TV talking about how for every dollar spent at Wal-Mart a few cents of that goes into the community for some little cause or charity or whatever.
