Any recomendation on what paint to use on my ATS manifold?

I'm considering going to a 4" exhaust system (with high flow muffler and resonator).

Has anyone who has gone to this type of system regretted doing so?

I regret not getting one yet. I have a straight 3" pipe and its getting a little raspy to me now. I am going for the deeper tone with less resonance.

Regret maybe not going w/ 5" the first time around.....

Live and learn.....

Of course, 5" is a waste if you're not pushing the 500 RWHP barrier, which I plan on doing sooner than later

I regretted it when I went to the ss4" system, the drone was something I did not want. And it was much worse when towing. I added a areo muffler in front of the system muffler and it toned it down to an acceptable level. I could never run a 5" or any open system, the noise and drone is so much it takes the fun out of driving the truck. There is a very good reason Dodge offered the truck with the system they have.

They want higher EGT's, longer spool time, and to make it sound like you're not really driving a diesel?

;)

I like the reduction in EGT. I don't like the drone - it gets old when towing on the Interstate all day. You're making a wise decision by including the resonator from the "git go". :D

For awhile, the drone was a bummer. Then I replaced the shorty muffler with a Walker, slid forward ... drone be gone. Oo.

Now, the state of Nevada has required inspection & emissions test, so I've got to put back on the CAT.

I gutted it & now have to have the 3" side of the CAT cut to 4", then installed. No doubt one of those cash only, no receipt deals. :)

I had the turbo down 4" installed using the Donaldson muffler and enlarged opening of the Cat. No drone and no significant increase in noise. I'm not planning to run more than around 350hp so 4' should be fine and I can still tow. I know some guys have removed the cat and still passed emmisions. I'm at about 220 hp now . I had to do the stomp test and it did belch some smoke. Made me nervous but it passed

At first I cut the stock downpipe under the passenger floorboard. Then I added 8' of 4" staight pipe with a turn down before the rear axle (You guys want to hear a drone)-drove it from N. Y. to C. A. like that. After that I added a Riprook 5" tailpipe. Then, I converted to an HX-40 downpipe and did a complete 5" system, all of this in about a 5 month period. I could never put a muffler back on my truck-love the sound too much. IMHO if its too noisy-roll the window up!

I don't notice the drone hardly at all. Mine is 4" from the turbo back with no cat or muffler. Most of what I hear is the engine itself. But then again its winter here and the windows are rolled up. We'll see about the summer. (got truck in NOV)

Ive done it and enjoy the he$$ out of it pulling a load sounds like a big skidder in the woods also everybody turns there head when i drive by and it also the drone gets the deer off the road

Love my 5" system. Mainly cause I made it from scratch and cost hardley anything. The most expensive thing was the huge 5 muffler... ... this thing is like 4 feet long. And no drone.

I have a few regrets.....

1) Not doing it sooner.

2) Not getting the parts to finish it out to the tailpipe; it stops under the bed, and the reverberation/ drone gets annoying at times. But I'm broke, and that takes money that can go toward fuel for my trip back home, or rent/ deposit, etc.

3) Rear tires wear with the increase in get-up-and-go. With the 4", an 18cm housing spools almost as quick as a 12cm/ stock system, with a little more smoke, but still livable. If I pull into traffic too assertively, (we all know aggressive drivers are pure evil:rolleyes: )I leave black marks on the pavement.

Hey snowracer there is no reason to be pickin on ol' y-knot just because he wants to be able to hear his grandkids someday.

I enjoy my straights on everything, especially when some moron with a cell phone has a 5" tip in their cellphone/ear at a stoplight and pulls up to give me that glare-which usually results in a little PM when the light turns green. Oo.

Obviously not everyone likes a bellerin' exhaust so I would start with a good 4" exhaust with a resonator an see how you like it. If it is too loud for you add a high quality muffler. The only way you will regret a 4" exhaust is if you buy something cheap and it falls apart. Banks exhaust are good fitting systems and are fairly quiet but I think there is a better bang for the buck combination out there, just make sure you get a stainless system if you want it to last. I think the old saying you get what you pay for applies to this subject.

Good Luck. .

Not doing it sooner

And not having someone with a welder do it-

The last 2 feet have to go around an aftermarket fuel tank and just don't make it. It is pointing to the ground under the truck. I did it when my tailpipe got a hole in it- cooked the shock, oil leaking - bought shocks- discovered exhaust leak- 4" system went in- then the shocks.
